IN OUR TOWN

We march to our places with clean hands and faces
And pay great attention to all we are told
For we know we can never be happy or clever
For learning is better than silver and gold
We march to our places with clean hands and faces
And pay great attention to all we are told

In our town, to t'school I go
Teacher lets uz call him Joe
Everythin' he seems to know
But he never tells uz

At doing maths I'm very good
With bits of paper and lumps of wood
What's three times three, well, I'd tell you if I could
But we've not been taught it

Our language lab, well, it's best in t'land
But we've no 'lectric man on hand
So it's used by the school brass band
Headmaster plays a trumpet

I'm top in Art, I don't have to slog
Miss liked ma portrait of a moorland bog
But it were done by our dog
I've found a new medium

We've health inspections three times a week
Into our eyes, nose, and ears they peek
We'd three fifth-formers got destroyed last week
What a loss to the nation

In our town, to t'school I go
Teacher lets uz call him Joe
Everythin' he seems to know
But he never tells uz
