The Deep Roots Music Cooperative is a non-profit organization in the Annapolis Valley dedicated to celebrating our musical and cultural heritage. "A RIGHT OLD SONG AND DANCE" Durham Folk Party takes place on the last full weekend of July each year. It is a celebration of folk song, music and dance which began in 1990 after the demise of the excellent Durham City Folk Festival and has developed into an important part of the music year of the city. Camping is at the recently re-built Durham Amateur Rowing Club which is along Green Lane at the top of Old Elvet in Durham and which has showers and toilets. The rowing club and pubs such as the Dun Cow, and the Shakespeare are the venues for song and music while the Market Place is the setting for the famous massed dance displays. The Town Hall is the venue for the Saturday night ceilidh. |

Greenwood Furnace Folk Gathering is a fun and friendly weekend of playing and listening to folk music - a fantastic three days of workshops, concerts, jams, dancing and friendship. Activities are held at Greenwood Furnace State Park in central PA, about 30 miles south of State College. This is a gorgeous location with beautiful mountain views, miles of hiking trails, and a six acre lake for swimming and fishing. Musicians of all instruments and levels are welcome, and there are also options for singers, dancers, and non-musicians. There's a choice of about 45 workshops on topics ranging from old time tunes to musical games to harmony singing to arranging music. Jam sessions will take place throughout the weekend. You'll have a chance to perform at open stage and also as part of a group performance Saturday evening. There will be a staff concert each evening, followed by staff-led jams, singing around the bonfire, and a contradance with open band. |

We host a three-day music camp called the O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat where we teach traditional Irish music on fiddle, flute, harp, whistle, Uilleann pipes, guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, tenor banjo, accordion, concertina, bodhran and piano. We also have classes in singing in both Irish Gaelic and English and a large number of music enrichment classes. Seven internationally-respected Irish players will join the teaching staff this year as guest instructors including Matt Cranitch and James Kelly on fiddle, Mick Moloney on tenor banjo, Mickey Dunne on Uilleann pipes, June McCormack on flute, Pat Egan on guitar and Danny O’Flaherty on singing ballads. The retreat is always held the last weekend in October in Midlothian, Texas at a comfortable, scenic camp there. For more information, please visit our website at www.oflahertyretreat.org.
