Never heard of Rita Connolly, so it probably isn't 'Same old man siting at the mill'.

I know of a few 'Factory Girl' songs. If it's the Itish one sung by a wealthy man who is jilted by a factory girl although he offers her land and house and gold in great store, let me know and I'll type out the lyrics.
Rita Connolly sang the songs for Shaun Davey's "Brendan Suite" about the epic voyage of St Brendan.

Urs, I have the Rita Connolly CD, but haven't got the lyrics handy. Give me a couple of days (if nobody beats me to it). What a shame Rita Connolly isn't better known. Maybe people forget she's the singer on Shaun Davey's 'Granuaile' suite CD? (I believe she is also married ot Shaun.) - Susanne

Rita Connolly sings also on the 'Granuaille' LP. Great Voice isn't it? I would be very happy If someone would send me or even write down the lyrics!

Here you are:

SAME OLD MAN
(Trad)

Chorus:
Same old man workin' at the mill
Mill turns around of its own free will
With a hand in the hopper and the other in the sack
Ladies step forward and the gents fall back

Down flew an owl with its head all white
Lonesome day and a lonesome night
Thought I heard a pretty girl say
Court all night and you sleep next day

Well then said the raven as she flew
If I was a young one I'd have two
One for to fetch and the other for to sew
I'd have a string for my bow, bow, bow

And my old man's in Kalamazoo
And he don't wear no yes I do
First to the left and then to the right
This old mill grinds day and night

The notes on the 'Rita Connolly' album give it as an Appalachian song.

there is a song called "Lewiston Factory Girl" in the DT about working conditions in New England mills in the 1830's. I also have a related version called "The Factory Girl's Come All Ye". Could that be it?

Sorry, forgot half the request:

FACTORY GIRL
(Trad)

I ain't gonna work in the factory and greasy-up my clothes
I ain't gonna work in the factory and splinters in my toes
Pity me my darlin', pity me I say
Pity me my darlin', and carry my blues away

And I ain't gonna hear that old spinning wheel rollin' round in my head
When other girls is hard at work I'll be home in bed
Pity me my darlin', pity me I say
Pity me my darlin', and carry my blues away

Repeat 1

From the CD 'Rita Connolly' as well, sung as a medley with 'Same Old Man' (or whatever the correct titles may be).

Refreshing this thread because my good friend just sang this song for me tonight and she had two more verses that she got off a Alan Lomax recording some years back.

No more shall I hear the drummer wheel,
Rollin o'er my head,
When other girls are home in bed.

No more shall I wear the old black dress
Greazy all around,
No mor shall I wear th old black bonnet
With holes poked through the crown.
