Hey there,

this is lovley! I am not alone!!!! I remember these songs from childhood and you can not imagine how disapointed I was when about 20 years ago I found records with the tales of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny and the songs were missing. I have no idea how they could do that. Those songs were great. But thanks to you guys I found this link - what do you think of that!
http://www.naxosdirect.com/CHILDRENS-SONGS---RHYMES-REVERIES-RIMES/title/MVCD1163/
Thanks for all the help. If you find anything more - please go on posting . I will keep this page in my favorits!

Has anyone mentioned the 1966 (I think) hit single by Dee-Jay and the Runaways?

I have been on line most of the day today searching for exactly these recordings of the Beatrix Potter stories with songs and music. I have been searching for these for my new daughter as I grew up on them and absolutely adored them growing up. Thank you to you all. Now, does anyone else have the rest of the recordings - The Story of Jemmima Puddle Duck, Squirrel Nutkin, Hunca Munca, Miss Twiggy Winkle????? I would love to have them all.

The record covers credit muusic and lyrics to Cyril Ornadel and David Croft. Ornadel also conducts.

There are photographs of the backs of the covers at rarelibrary.com/book/Col-c/155/SET+OF+THREE+BEATRIX+POTTER+45+RPM+EXTENDED+PLAY+RECORDS+WITH+DUST+COVERS.html that usefully also list who sings which song.

The Vivien Leigh songs aren't the Dudley Glass version. I always thought the Vivien Leigh songs were written by Davis Croft (of Dad's Army fame). CAn anyone help me out with more info?

The kids at an English speaking Kindergarten here in Austria performed these songs recently as part of their end-of-the-year show. They played a CD with the songs on and sang along so it must be available somewhere!

hi there! trying to see if anyone has heard of this song i used to have on vinyl with my little fischer price record player. i believe it was part of the peter rabbit arena, but the only lyrics i can remember are:
    "I climbed up a tree,
    mommy said i shouldn't.
i can do it here i go
oops i fell and bumped my toe.

    things sometimes happen
    when you do a "don't"

cuz when you do do a "don't"
    like Peter Rabbit
    It becomes a habit...."

and that's all i that i can assemble after 25yrs.
anything ring a bell???
thanks in advance!

WONDERFUL! WONDERFUL! Thank you so much! I have been looking for this for a year. Even writing to the BEatrix Potter people. They knew the record, but said there were no plans to make it into a CD.

Listening to Peter Rabbit, I realise that after 30 years I still know EVERY word!

If anyone can download the other 3 (?) stories from the LP...??

Thank you so much for posting this. I have been searching for it for my younger sister, since our mother died last year and we have been reminicing. She had these records when she was small. Thank you again for adding to our trip down memory lane. We really enjoyed hearing it again as it took as back to that precious time.

My mother and I were talking about this only yesterday, or the day before because we both remember it. Is there any way of downloading the others ?

Even now, I still believe in the advice of Follow Your hears ?

I came on this site after a google search about this very record. I have the original with the 3 other stories but it is very crackly after years of devoted playing as a child. I found myself singing the songs to my own children the other day and decided to see if I could find a better copy to put on CD. You are the answer to my prayers and I am transported back to the past. Thanks for the links. They will continue the legacy in my house. I had no idea so many people remember it like I do.
Cheers

I had a book of Peter Rabbit songs, which my son now has. I've requested a contents list from him, and I'll let you know what happens.

Our kids grew up with this cassette, along with the stories of the Flopsy Bunnies, Benjamin Bunny and Mrs Tiggywinkle. Wonderfully singable songs and delightfully told stories. Each one a folk opera!

Just yesterday, we passed it on to our 4 year old grand-daughter Izzy. 'Tis a proper tradition now...

Vivien Leigh is not likely to be confused with Joan Plowright.

Streaming the audio isn't working well for me. Let's see if this link works for download: http://www.vivien-leigh.com/peterrabbitmp3.mp3.
Right-click and select "save as"
Yup- it works.

Vivien Leigh was also a wife of Larry wasn't she? As was Joan Plowright, later on. Hence the confusion. (I wonder if there are people who think Joan Plowright played Scarlet O'Hara..).

My brother, when a small boy, had a record of the Peter Rabbit story (with those songs), also a companion one with The Tale of Benjamin Bunny. I have always assumed that the songs were written specially for the two records.

Not a Run Melbourne race report

I often get comments about getting up early, training out in the weather all the time, how I must be so 'disciplined', 'dedicated' etc. etc (ahem, LOL ROFL). As you know, this is far from the case. When I was little my Mum used to play us a bedtime story tape of Peter Rabbit. Peter sang a little song about why he got into such mischief. It pretty much explains everything, and goes like this:
Why do I do it?
What is the cure?
My brothers and my sisters find it easy I am sure
That's how I've been ever since I begun
Why do I do it?
Why do I do it?
Why DO I do it?
BECAUSE"

Found thison the www.

I think it was sung by Joan Plowright in the 1950's and was recorded onto red vinyl i believe:

Song number 1.

We're a happy family, we're a happy family, and we live at the foot of a big fir tree, Flopsy, Mopsy, nothing could be sweeter, and funny little Cotton Tail, and Peter.

Song number 2.

Why do i do it? What is the cure? My brothers and my sisters find it easy, I am sure. I'd give the world if only I could, Once in a while, be good.

I think a halo would suit me, dangling over my head. When they behold me, they wouldn't scold me, they'd say well done instead...

As you can see they are songs written about the Peter Rabbit stories.

Anyone else know these and who wrote them, and for what?

Sal
