Subject: RE: BS: Interesting Videos From: CarolC Date: 29 Jun 08 - 11:26 PM The cellos were fun. I kept waiting for one of those guys to get his hair stuck between the bow and the strings. I couldn't get into the video with the electric guitar, unfortunately. The sound that guitar was making felt like it was going to give me a migraine if I kept listening to it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Interesting Videos From: Ron Davies Date: 29 Jun 08 - 11:50 PM Re: the cellos. No way will that ever come close to Dvorak, Haydn, etc. It seems a real shame if that sort of pandering is necessary to fill a concert hall. Yes, in some ways, I am a real conservative, reactionary, whatever you want to call it. If this be treason, make the most of it. The piece sure did point up the vast superiority of classical music in a lot of ways---that wonderful opus was singularly lacking in, say, any development of the theme whatsoever. And they say Tchaikovsky doesn't have enough development in his symphonies. But I certainly do agree that long hair you can throw around is a plus in a concert hall--lots of classical artists have latched onto that. And I agree it's fun to see that. |
Subject: RE: BS: Interesting Videos From: CarolC Date: 29 Jun 08 - 11:55 PM I said "fun". I didn't say profound, moving, or even great music. I prefer Bach to Dvorak or Haydn, myself. |

Subject: RE: BS: Interesting Videos From: Donuel Date: 31 Jul 08 - 09:25 PM Amos, as a cellist all my life, I am aware of dozens of rock cello bands or bands that included at least one full time cello. For an all cello band I recomend Apocolypse For true enjoyment I reccomend The Terrapin String Quartet followed by Cronos string quartet. The all cello orchestras are most effective with pieces like Samual Barber's Adagio. |
