I didn't see ER, but it sounds like it was Beth Nielsen Chapman. She has a song Sand and Water which is very lovely. I'll dig the lyrics out and post them in a bit.

Yes, it was "Sand and Water", written after her husband died.

This is a great song that I find walks the knife edge of mawkishness, and I found trouble singing it, even though I very much wanted to. There are another couple of good songs on the CD this is taken from, Happy girl, and All the time in the world, that are as memorable, and show what a good writer she can be, although not quite in the league of Jennifer Warnes. I am impressed by the girls they've got in the New Nashville stables.
