Surgery, since healing of broken shoulder was a bit of a fail, is hopefully scheduled for tomorrow morning; always supposing the trauma team don't get a load of admissions over night.

I really, really want to be fixed and getting on with my life again so light candles that everyone in the Bath area has a peaceful and safe night, would you?

The NHS is great at dealing with emergency cases but sadly non-emergencies usually end up being put back repeatedly. I needed a small op which was forever delayed so I ended up going private and got it done within days. Sadly, private ain't cheap, and when you've paid National Insurance for years then there is an expectation that the NHS will look after you in a timely manner. Good luck Morticia and I really hope you don't have to wait much longer. In fact, isn't there a new Gov't target for surgery waiting lists, after which you can go private and get the NHS to pay?

A splinter in the finger - YES. A hernia - yes. Even a hysterectomy for non cancerous reasons...but a broken collar bone?

Micca. I am far more intimidating when I am quiet and determined and seething. Works wonders on self important ward nurses. Doesn't hurt to give the impression that the next time they see you your pals from the hospital Board of Directors will accompany you.
Not talking about getting special treatment but a civil answer. Jacqui had one try to
dismiss her without a simple and courteous answer. She was dealt with very quickly and efficiently without ever raising my voice. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Morticia seems OK with her treatment. So we'll just continue to wish her speedy care and healing. Poor Idris. By now he must be a candidate for sainthood.

Better to be in the waiting room waiting for a bed than awaiting a call to leave.

The first call saying don't leave till we confirm the room is empty caught me when I was ready to leave, but it takes me an hour & 2 buses to get there I said, wait, they said.

So I eventually arrived after staff had left for the day & it was mid morning the following day when I was finally hooked up (they had said I'd be hooked up at 7am when day staff arrived ... did I say our hospitals are understaffed?) & I sat around reading & knitting, waiting for the machine to blip, but nuffin' happened ...

They said stay overnight again until something happens, but I was booked in for 2 days & couldn't stay the extra night cos I had commitments on day 3, so I went home, which meant the test was inconclusive.

Had I been waiting in their waiting room ...

I've just heard from Micca. It has been done, that's about all he knows at this point. She was still in recovery when he spoke to whomever (I think he said it was her at about 730p?) Apparently, it was done sometime in the afternoon. So at least that big part is done!

She had the op late this afternoon. So late that they're keeping her in overnight but they expect to discharge her sometime tomorrow. I've just got back from the hospital and, despite being connected to about a dozen tubes and hoses, she's amazingly chirpy - but I think that has something to do with that handy little morphine button she keeps playing with.

massive scar, a good 6 inches long, i'd say, wish i could show you all, showing off scars is the best bit!

all held together with little plastic strips which i've never seen before with proper stitches underneath those. anyone know if i can take the plastic ones off?

That's what I told the surgeon I was going to do, but it's still way too tender. He didn't forget, though. The last time I saw him, a couple of months after surgery, he reminded me that I could now get that zipper tattoo!

Mortee, I had staples...no plastic strips. :-)

if I remember correctly, the plastic strips on my 12" scar fell off when they were ready to fall off - maybe the glue lasts as long as needed to cover the stitches?

What about some comfrey/boneknit tea or homoeopathic drops? And, maybe there is an acupuncturist who would know how to stimulate the bones?

Whatever they try to use to help Morti was probably originally tested on laboratory rats or mice to insure success on the rodent to recovery from broken bones, Gnaws-ya from the chewed ones and pulled Hamstering Muscles and the like.

Somewhere they should erect a Tomb Of The Unknown Rat for those that actually died in the name of good.

Set up a special room and IV for you in the Recovery Ward. Check in any time. One for you too Spaw.
This slow bone growth is a common complaint. Do a GOOGLE search for more info. Sit and wait is the cure - frustrating.

They're giving me 3-4 months,of which 6 weeks have gone, then they will go back in and do the graft and replate.

Sometime after that, if it works, they go in and take the plate out. I am looking to you guys (Spaw especially) for help in making up a really good story about how I wound up with what will look like three 6 inch claw marks across my shoulders!
