The Wath Folk Club has returned to its former venue.

Live at the Lion.

Opening Night Sunday 6th December.

The Red Lion, 10 High Street, Wath-upon Dearne, Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

We will be forming a committee, if you're interested let me know.

"It will need your continuing support".

Yes its upstairs, it's a very nice room now Ray. Friday is an acoustic night at the Empress in Mexborough, it's in the Cafe Bar area and I have put a nice P A System in there. Just an informal play/singaround, no structure just do whatever and enjoy! I will of course be there to help in any way, also join in with the fun and frolics. Everyone welcome.

There is a carvery available if you would like to eat.

Yes ~ Geoff and Mary past publicans did the room up at the Red Lion and has seen past great folk happenings too

They were good days at the Lion Ray, I also remember the days when it was held at the rugby club, must be over 30 years ago. Happy memories.

I remeber Bob Chiswick being the host and yes of course Eric. I actually joined the morriss team training in the upstairs room at the lion on an old wooden floor. Hmmm! I don't think I lasted long?

Eric was the early main man and enlisted Ivor Allsop to teach the Morris

Ivor had already got longsword established in Barnsley

Eric was also a keen Civic Hall Barnsley attendee and very much a song man

Tim Binns and Bob Chiswick came later I think

Also of mention "Mont" John Auckland a great friend of Eric's!

After a long Sunday at York and Wakefield on Sunday was pleasantly o surprised with this return to of the club to Wath upon Dearne and led by Ian, with some 15+ singers and audience at The Red Lion

A well refurbished upstairs room and total refurb downstairs this has great potential for old and new singers alike
Club membership of £1 pw started

That upstairs room echoes with many years of good craic. Bernie Parry, Capstick, the Barnsley Lads, and of course hosts Geoff & Mary. I have fond memories of festivals, club nights and more recently the excellent Fire Festival. A bit too far for me as a night out from Notts. but best wishes to the new club.

Funny you should ask that! As one of our members was arriving at the Lion, Geoff was just walking bye, I was informed after they had a discussion that they were both fine, Geoff working in a call centre and enjoying that. I do hope that they call in to see us at some point, that would be nice.

What a great night last night, also a pleasure to hear the lovely voice of Charlotte and of course her song choices, fields of gold especially.

The club will run through Xmas, so if you're doing nowt come along and enjoy the fun, maybe some xmas goodies eh!

So, next club on Sunday 20th

Be there or be square!

Also for those interested, Friday night at the Empress for a get together with a little difference, this is not a folk club but an acoustic night akin to a jam night.
