Central London commuters' singaround?

Subject: Central London commuters' singaround? From: Hamish Date: 19 Nov 09 - 04:08 AM Just taking a straw poll... ...anybody fancy an early evening singaround in Central London? I'm thinking that by starting at 7pm (or earlier? 6.30? 6.15?) we commuters could have a couple of hours and still be home at not-too-late-o'clock. Your input gratefully received but here's my initial thoughts: I've identified a perfect venue: quiet upstairs bar, not too big, not too small. It's at the north end of Waterloo Bridge so ideal for those commuting into Waterloo and Charing Cross. Handy for tube lines to everywhere else. End of The Strand adjacent to Covent Garden/Aldwych. We can have it for free on quiet nights (i.e. probably Mondays unless a paying customer wants to pay real money for it) Bombardier and London Pride on tap. The Pride is excellent. I could perhaps bring a "house" guitar. I'm working in Somerset House for a few months, so it'd be - for me, at any rate - an occasional and probably short-term commitment. But I'd be more than happy to set up a trial one-off and take it from there. Realistically, we might be looking at the new year, but I'm sort of hoping we could squeeze in Monday 30th November if there's enough interest. Your constructive thoughts more than welcome. But, more than that, your strong commitment to support it would be excellent! Either post to this thread or pm me. Let's do it! |

I've often thought of going in there and asking about putting on acoustic gigs... Also its only round the corner for us. Before I put up notice which will be my next shift(I do night security 3 on 4 off could you please confirm the times for the event. I expect people will drift in (and out) pretty constantly throughout the following couple of hours (or more!). And that's fine. We won't be chastising late arrivals or early leavers. In a way, that's the whole point of it: to be "commuter friendly". Plus, being free to get in, there's no need to "get your money's worth". There is no expectation on when people should get there or for how long they stay. It's commuter friendly with the accent on friendly. Even those who pop in for a quick half and "merely" join in on a chorus or two will be most welcome. There is only one rule: that everyone is respectfully quiet during turns. ~8^) |

It might be a good idea to negotiate how much notice the landlord will give you - if you are providing him with regular drinkers he ought to be willing to give you some security. |

If we have a full room of free-spending, free-thinking, free-singing, free-drinking happy punters and punterettes then we'll be in a strong position. If there's only three or four of us sipping a half to make it last all night, then our position will be a little less strong... ...weekly might be pushing things. Maybe fortnightly. As I said in the first post it's a trial one-off for now and we'll take it from there. Some posters have already said they'll come in January or March or not Mondays so there are all sorts of possibilities. |
