My wife Betty and I will be visiting southern California in early 2010.
During February we will be in area of Palm Springs.
March we will be in the San Diego area and late March/early April we will be in the vicinity of Palmdale/Acton .
We would be grateful to Mudcatters from these areas who can direct us to any Folkclubs,singarounds,jam sessions etc.around the locations which we will be visiting.
Presently our home is in Vancouver B.C. although we are originally from North Eastern England. We have over the years been actively involved in Folk music both as performers and organisers, most recently as part of the English Folk Band Jiggery Pokery.
Although we are well versed in British Folk music, we are also very fond of Old Timey and Bluegrass and we look forward to adding some songs from the southwest to our repertoire

I'm glad to see your list, Mary Katherine. It's centered in the L.A. area. Another resources for that area is the Folkworks calendar. However, most of those events listed would be at least an hour, if not, two, from Palm Springs, or Palmdale (and L.A. area events are 1-1/2 to 2 hours from San Diego).

But, there should certainly be some bluegrass in either of those areas. There is a bluegrass festival in April in Indio (just east of Palm Springs).

Gee, Mary Katherine, I wish I had seen your lists in the 1990s when I was working frequently in LA. I got to some nice things, but it was hit-and-miss. Same thing in San Diego - too bad I didn't know Amos then.

But hey, if it's in Northern California, I know about it. We've got lots.

Yeah, I know about the areas I'm missing, believe me. The calendar lists events that take place in the listening range of the Saturday morning folk/bluegrass radio show I do on KPFK, so basically I list anything from San Luis Obispo to San Diego. I am also quite willing to list events that go inland as far as the station's transmitter does, which is nearly to the AZ border (!), but folks just don't send me listings from those places. If I get ever get sent any listings for gigs in Palmdale, Lancaster, all those places, you bet I'll add them!
If anybody wants to hear the radio show, just go to www.kpfk.org anytime, and click on audio archives. The show is called Alive & Picking (and so is the calendar).
Joe, do you maintain a web site calendar for events in your No. Cal. area? If so, please let me know, because I get asked that question A LOT.

Thanks folks for taking the time to post your information it looks
like there will be lots of music for us to check out.
This will be our first adventure as "Snowbirds" and we are getting really excited at the prospect of enjoying both sunshine and music.
Just as long as I can find someone with satellite TV so I can see Canada win the hockey gold medal.

Just be prepared for all sorts of weather here...it could be very nice (70's Fahrenheit) or raining cats and dogs....and cold...so be prepared.
