Unclear about @mudcat

Reading through older posts this morning, I came across mention of the @mudcat chatroom on ICQ. I've had ICQ for several months now--even have my own list devoted solely to folk (*when* online)--but have not ever joined a chatroom. How is this done? I entered in the # and added @mudcat to my list. Do I need to wait until it shows up as being online? Or od I access it by going through the tabs at the bottom of the list? You ICQers will know what I mean.

If you still can't make any sense of it let me know...............And I thought you were the expert?

It has to be online and I'm not too sure if it is now that Max has started the IRC chatroom. Have you been there?

Can't get the ICQ room any more... it worked, then there were some strange people there... then it worked... now it doesn't...help!!

Funny! (smile) You'd think I'd be able to "get it", wouldn't you? Looks like I was right about the room needing to be online.

I briefly used IRC about a year and some ago; found it to be more cumbersome than ICQ, what with frequently getting bounced off and all. And so many channels to sort through. Some encouraging words may change my mind, so would be glad to hear them.

i've never been able to get into the chat--I always get an error message or a timed out thing. I think it's just that no one wants to talk to me :(

Hi,

the @mudcat hasn't been online for ages now....... yes it has to be online before you can get in....

it worked for a day or two after we had the big mix up with the @sex room (I kid you not... several of us ended up in there.. some of us more than once.. **grin**)...... since then I assume Max shut it down and wants us to use the one given above... which works well (although I still prefer ICQ)...

Mudcat chat room

the suggestion was that we go into it on the hour and lurk then at least we have some chance of bumping into other people.

I just tried Alison's link. I got the Mudcat logo with a blank page under it. My little aol triangle sat motionless at the top of the window. --seed

Hi Seed,

It takes a while for anything to appear on that page.. then you get a box with all your details on it...... and below that a teensie weensie "enter" which you click on... that gets you into the room.

There was a rumour that it wasn't letting more than 5 people in at a time.. maybe that is what happened....

I clicked on the link in alison's note, and waited...and got in. There was nobody there but me, so I had a conversation with myself. Learned a lot of stuff from me about me, but it was all very one-sided. So I left, wishing myself a goodnite.

Just tried....AGAIN....to get into the new chat room. Recieved a different error message this time. Evidently my "cookie variable has been misspelled" or my "cookie variable has not yet been created or has timed out" Every time this happens, the song about the little rabbit in the woods pops into my head and it takes days to get rid of it!!! "help me, help me, help me she cried...Or the hunter will shoot me dead...Little rabbit come inside...safely you'll abide."

Others have had the same problem.. if you try to use a different name from the one you are registered by at Mudcat you'll get this sort of problem......

I don't know how the others sorted it out..... but if you have another name .. try it...

haven't seen many people in there recently..... although I bumped into that big hunk from Michigan earlier on... be still my beating heart**grin**

Maybe people have forgotten about its existance again.... any chance of a permanent link Max?

alison...my computor seems to have all kinds of complaints tonight...its also been sporadically deleting my name from posts to threads. I'm registered with Mudcats as Night Owl...trying to access the chat room site didn't allow me to get as far as giving a name....I may have not loaded right or need to "reset my cookie"...not a thing to do when I'm tired and hungry!!!thanks for the info...I'll try again tomorrow night.
