I've been cruising the mother song threads and like the lyrics for "A Mother's Love is a Blessing". Can anyone provide me with the tune?? Yes, it's getting to be that time of year...

Hi,

If no one else comes up with the tune I'll post what I know... I only remember the tune for the chorus.... the verse may be similar..... I was almost sure we had a thread for this particular song in the last year but I couldn't find it......

Here's a previous thread we had of Mother songs of the tear jerker variety.. you'll get the words posted by Mick Bracken 24/07/98 04.30

Don't forget your tissues.....

A Mother's Love's A Blessing (T. P. Keenan)

An Irish boy was leaving,
Leaving his native home,
Crossing the broad Atlantic,
Once more he wished to roam,
And as he was leaving his mother,
Who was standing on the quay,
She threw her arms around his waist,
And this to him did say,

Chorus
A mother's love's a blessing,
No matter where you roam,
Keep her while she's living,
You'll miss her when she's gone,
Love her as in childhood,
Though feeble, old and grey,
For you'll never miss a mother's love,
Till she's buried beneath the clay,

And as the years go onwards,
I'll settle down in life,
And choose a nice young colleen,
And take her for my wife,
And as the babes grow older,
And climb around my knee,
I'll teach them the very same lesson,
That my mother taught to me.

Chorus

A song my mother taught me. Regards Mick Bracken ^^

Well in that case....... here's the chorus. Let me know if you need guitar chords.. but it's a pretty simple tune in G.

ABC format:

X:1
T:A Mother's loves a blessing
M:3/4
Q:1/4=100
K:G
D6|B,4D2|C4B,2|A,2G,4|-G,4G2|G4A2|G2F2E2|
D6|-D6|G6|-G4G2|F4G2|E2D4|-D4D2|E4B,2|A,4B,2|
A,6|-A,6|B,6|-B,4D2|C4B,2|A,2G,4|-G,2B,2D2|
G4A2|G2F2E2|D6|-D2E2F2|G4G2|F4G2|E4B,2|G,2A,2B,2|
C2D2E2|B,4A,2|G,6|-G,6||

I found this a bit odd.. it's very like Toora loora loora in places.. so apologies if I got them mixed up.....

Thanks so much Alison. The guitarist in our group likes to make up his own cords, so the midi is all I need.
