help! i've been trying to discover who sings a couple of ballads that i've heard occasionally on radio but can never catch his name. I think one is call Bees' Wing. the other i think is called Vincent Black Lightening 1942. They both sound like it's the same singer, but i can't be certain.... thanks for any help!

Hi - both songs were recorded by Richard Thompson. Click here to get to a site with lots of Richard Thompson lyircs, but I don't know if it has the songs you're seeking.
Hope that helps.

Dear tellmari,

The best & quickest way to get a response here is to start a new thread, as you did, but to include in the title any song name or words that you know i.e. "Looking for Bee's Wing?" etc.

The other thing that you can do, before starting a thread, is go to the box in the upper right hand corner and do a search for the song in the Digital Tradition database. There are literally thousands of song lyrics in there.

There is bound to be someone here who will know what you are talking about. Good luck,

katlaughing

Greg Brown does a version of "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" on his 1995 "Live One" recording.

Dick Gaughan does an extremely emotional and fantastic version of 1952 Vincent Black Lightning on his Appleseed cd "Sail On". While I'm here, would like to let you know Dick Gaughan is my next concert here in Toledo a week from tonight Wednesday, July 28th at 7pm in Toledo Oregon. If any Mudcatters are close enough to us, they're welcome to the concert as our guest(s). Just say I'm a mudcatter and you're in for a great concert...... Call Nancy or myself at 1-541-336-5743........

Just wanted to endorse "Frank of Toledo"'s comments about his Gaughan concert. If you CAN get there then DO. Dick is simply one of the very finest performers out there today. (Bit too far for me to travel, I'm afraid). If you want to know a little more about Dick (warning to those of a feeble disposition . . he can be unapologetically political, as well as a wonderful performer of traditional material) visit his web site: http://www.dickalba.demon.co.uk/

Enjoy!

G.
