Subject: Don goes to Prov. RI

Hello All,

I'm off to Providence RI this coming weekend. Saddly for an overnight only. I am dropping the "Evil Twins" in North Dartmouth and then headining back to Providence for the nite. Any concerts, coffee houses, or plays that can be recommended?

Thanks in advance.

Don

I can't tell ya about sessions, but I hope you have a geat trip. Providence is a great little city. Enjoy a pint of Sam Adams and a bucket of steamers for me!

Don, if you have a taste for fantastic real Portuguese food there is a wonderful little place in East Providence (not the east side of providence) called Stella Du Mar. Star of the Ocean. They have the most delicious Paella I've ever tasted. Real seafood. mmmmm... And if you're lucky enough, there will be Professional Portuguese singers singing back and forth to each other walking around the tables while you glory in the food. Try a Portuguese imported wine. They also make the best wine I've ever had. The singers are usually there on Friday and Saturday nights. A bit of advice though. Even if you think you MIGHT go, call and make a reservation. It's a small place and is packed with the local Portuguese population. Damn! I might make a little trip myself this weekend.

Love, annap

Hey, Don, send me some Portagee rolls while your there, okay? Sure do miss them! The area up by Brown University was always a lot of fun; lots of nifty shops and a lot going on. I would imagine you could find something musical up there on the hill. Wouldn't take very long to drive on down to Mystic and go to the Seaport.

Dear Don--

I'll look around and see what's going on Saturday night. Where are you coming from? I ask because Tim's about 30 minutes west of Providence, and I'm 45 minutes Southwest, so if you're heading home in either of those directions, perhaps the three of us could jam a bit. Also, my dad said recently that he didn't hear from you on the firing pin, and he's about 90 minutes northwest of Providence, so you could maybe stop by and see him if you're still interested; or you could leave the gun with me and I'd take it to him. In any case, Mystic is fun and has good music, that's about an hour from Providence and 30 minutes from me. Boston is fun and about an hour from Providence also.

Let me know what you're interested in, and I'll see what I can find and post it here.

Well Don, you've probably received more advice and well wishing than you had counted on, but one more thought form me. As a couple of folks have already recommended, there are some great Portugese foods up that way, and if you get a chance you might want to try one the great sausages from that culture; Choricio (may be spelled a bit wrong). It is pronounced by locals as; Cha reese' and it is meaty, spicey and delicious!

Of course the sea food is grand as well.

Vixen, my wife and I spent a week in Little Compton last summer, and usually get a chance to visit the area every summer. I'll warn you next time I make it up that way, perhaps you and/or other Musdcatters will be around for a session!

OMG, someone's coming to RI! Get out the fire trucks, let's have a parade!

If you'll be in town on Saturday night, the Stone Soup Coffeehouse has usually got something going on. Let me check the schedule for you, if I can find one...AS220 may also have something interesting.

Can I be in on any get-togethers that might happen? I only sing, don't play any instruments, but am kinda desperate for musical contact.

Don--

These are the Providence listings for 11/13 from DirtyLinen.com There was nothing interesting listed for anywhere east of Hartford in Connecticut.

11/13 Bresler's Klezmer Orchestra, Stone Soup Providence 401/245-9306 11/13 Chris Turner & Rachel Maloney, Stone Soup Providence 401/245-9306 11/13 John Herald, Common Fence Point Community Hall Portsmouth 401/683-5085 11/13 Northern Lights, Greenwich Odeum E. Greenwich 401/885-9119

Tim and I might not be available after all, because my dad wants us to come up and help him with some outside work, so I don't know what time we'll get back.

Good luck in any event, and I'll keep an eye here to see what transpires. If Tim and I can meet up with you folks, we'll do it. Also, Tiger lives around this neck of the woods...You might want to email him too.

If you're not into Klezmer (great stuff), I'd suggest taking advantage of the oppornockity to hear John Herald! Remember him? Terrific singer. I'd jump at the chance.

There you go...Definitive "advice" from the Sage of Age.....better take it Don, but I think I'd still bring the Tiple and the Tums. (sounds like an Irish/Scottish thing doesn't it?)
