Howdy PHINQUE770,

I know I've put in a lot of other verses at times, but the only other one that hit me immediately is in Rise Up Singing.

We had a rooster, no love would he give.

One day another rooster came into our yard and caught that rooster right off of his guard.

He's laying hens now, just like he used to . . .

Allinkausay, Bill

This is another song but thought I'd share it.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////
There was a little rooster by the barnyard gate,
And that little rooster was my playmate,
And that little rooster went cockle doodle doo,
Dee doodle, dee doodle, dee doodle dee doo.

There was a little cow by the barnyard gate,
And that little cow was my playmate,
And that little cow went moo moo moo,
And that little rooster went cockle doodle doo,
Dee doodle, dee doodle, dee doodle dee doo.

There was a little sheep by the barnyard gate,
And that little sheep was my playmate,
And that little sheep went bah bah bah,
And that little cow went moo moo moo,
And that little rooster went cockle doodle doo,
Dee doodle, dee doodle, dee doodle dee doo.
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

You continue on adding animals: cat, dog, horse, pig, duck, etc.
Don't know where it came from, it is another song my Daddy sang, my favorite as a small child and one kids still love.

I know a rather funny musical humor group called "Blue Kangaroo" does a version of the song. . . which goes as follows:

We had a chicken, no eggs would she lay;
We had a chicken, no eggs would she lay;
My wife said "honey, we're losing money,
because that chicken, she won't lay eggs."

One day this rooster, came into our yard;
He knocked that chicken, right offa her guard;
She's laying eggs now, just like she youster,
ever since that rooster, came into our yard.
---
We had a moo-cow, no milk would she give;
We had a moo cow, no milk would she give;
My wife said "honey, we're losing money,
because that moo-cow, she won't give milk."

One day this rooster, came into our yard;
(spoken) "Big rooster!" "Nah, small cow."
He knocked that moo-cow, right offa her guard;
(spoken) "What. . . did he use a stool for Christ's sake?"
She's givin eggnog, in glass containers,
ever since that rooster came into our yard.
---
We had a oil well, no crude would it pump;
We had a oil well, no crude would it pump;
My wife said "Honey, we're losing money,
because that oil well, it won't pump crude.

One day this rooster, came into our yard;
(spoken) "Man, I've heard of lubrication, but geez!"
He knocked that oil well, right offa its guard;
(spoken) "Yikes. . . some serious oil-working going on there."
Now it's giving Shell gas, out by the gallon,
ever since that rooster, came into our yard.
---
(This one is a little off-color from a gay friend of mine, sorry)

We had a rooster, he was a little bit gay;
(spoken) "Cock-a-doodle-do you big stud"
We had a rooster, he was a whole lot gay;
My wife said "honey, we're losing money,
because that rooster, he's. . .
(spoken) well, he's living a different lifestyle."

One day this sexy chicken, came into our yard;
She knocked that rooster, right offa his guard;
He's layin' hens now, and roosters too sir,
ever since that chicken, came into our yard.

there are, of course, as many different verses of this song as you can think up and/or sing. . . including ones where the rooster gets a bit homicidal and we get bacon and eggs out of the deal. . .

I found this page with a Google search for "since that rooster. I remembered hearing a funny song about a rooster in boy scouts 20+ years ago. I can say weekly I'll hear a phrase from that song, "since that rooster came into my yard", in my head but could not remember the rest of it. Thank you all for filling in the gaps my memory had lost.

Vampire, no cape did he have,
He's got his capon...

Backhoe, no holes would it dig,
It's eggscavating...

Some construction workers no walls would the build,
They're laying bricks now...

Gas pump, no gaas would it give,
It's laying Eggson in Shell containers...

An elephant, no tusks would it grow.
It's laying pool-balls of solid ivory..

A gay rooster who was awfully gay,
He's laying hens now...

Subject: Lyr Add: THE BANTAM COCK (Jake Thackray)
From: GUEST,Foghorn
Date: 30 Oct 03 - 04:06 PM

This is the song entitled THE BANTAM COCK by Jake Thackray

He was a fine upstanding bantam cock,
So brisk and stiff and spry,
With a springy step and a jaunty plume,
And a purposeful look in his eye;
In his little black laughing eye there was.

I took him to the coop and introduced him to
Me seventeen wild-eyed hens.
He upped and he tupped as a hero tups.
He bowed to them all and then,
He upped and he tupped 'em all again.

And then upon the peace of me ducks and me geese
He rudely did intrude.
With a glazed eye and open mouth
They bore him with fortitude,
And a little bit of gratitude.

He jumped me giggling guinea fowl.
He thrust his attentions upon
Me twenty hysterical turkeys and
A visiting migrant swan,
And the bantam thundered on, he did!

He ravaged me fan-tailed pigeon
And me lily-white columbine,
And as I was locking up me budgerigar,
He jumped me parrot from behind.
She was sitting on me shoulder at the time!

Then all of a sudden with a gasp and a wheeze,
He clasped his wings to his head,
Lay flat on the ground with his feet in the air.
Me bantam cock lay dead,
And the vultures circled overhead, they did.

What a noble bird! What a champion cock!
What a way to live and to die!
I was digging him a grave to save his bones.
From the hungry buzzards in the sky
When the bantam opened up a sly little eye.

Well, he gave me a wink and a terrible grin,
The way that rapists do.
He said, "You see them big daft buggers up there?
They'll be down in a minute or two!
They'll be down in a minute or two!"

The final verse, as I heard it (back in the '60s) was:

I had me an elephant, no tusk would it bear
I had me an elephant, no tusk would it bear
My wife said "Honey, we're losin' money."

So I took the rooster
I put him in the yard
He caught that elephant
right of of his guard

(Big laugh from anticipating audience)

My rooster DIED,
but he died TRYING
since I put him into the yard...

(disolve into uproarious applause)

These are the only lyrics I have ever heard.

We had a hen, no eggs would she lay
We had a hen, no eggs would she lay
Until the rooster came on the farm
He caught that hen out by the barn

She's layin eggs now yes we've got eggs now
Since the rooster came on the farm
She's layin eggs now yes we've got eggs now
Since the rooster came on the farm

We had a cow no milk would she give
We had a cow no milk would she give
Until the rooster came on the farm
And caught that cow out by the barn

She's given eggnog yes we've got eggnog
Since the rooster came on the farm
Yes we've got eggnog, yes we've eggnog
Since the rooster came on the farm

We had a dog she wouldn't have no pups
We had a dog she wouldn't have no pups
Until the rooster came on the farm
And caught that dog out by the barn

We're havin bird dogs yes we've got bird dogs
Since the rooster came on the farm
Yes we've got bird dogs we're havin bird dogs
Since the rooster came on the farm

I had an aunt she wouldn't have no kids
Had an aunt she wouldn't have no kids
Until the rooster came on the farm
And caught my aunt out by the barn

We're havin fried chicken
We're havin fried chicken
Since the rooster came on the farm
We're havin fried chicken
We're havin fried chicken
Since the rooster came on the farm

The aunt part is my favorite I think it's funny!

Haven't heard it since her hubby got transferred to Colorado(how many yrs ago?)...deep sigh of contentment. Thanks very much. Tw

Two verses that I didn't see (and might very well have overlooked):

I had a movie theater, no movies it played...
We're watching chick flicks

I had a math book, no help it gave...
We have eggs-amples

Great camp song, thanks for the new verses!
