Subject: Wales beats Tahiti! From: Roger the skiffler Date: 10 Dec 99 - 06:27 AM Cut 'n' pasted from today's BBC online news services: A blues guitarist invited to earn £12,000 for a millennium show in Tahiti has turned it all down to stay at home in west Wales.
Todd Sharpville gave up the chance of playing with old friend Big Joe Turner at the prestigious concert to be with his family in Milford Haven.
So some 'Catter might get to fill the vacancy! |

Subject: RE: BS: Wales beats Tahiti! From: paddymac Date: 10 Dec 99 - 04:59 PM It surely can't be the weather. The promoters should be encouraged to post a "gig available" notice on the 'cat. But, maybe they don't want to sort thru a million offers to substitute for the Welsh familyman. |

Subject: RE: BS: Wales beats Tahiti! From: Jon Freeman Date: 10 Dec 99 - 05:38 PM Fair play to the man (or should I say chwarae teg). Mind you, I'd love to be in the position to be offered that sort of money let alone being able to turn it down! Jon |

Subject: RE: BS: Wales beats Tahiti! From: Melbert Date: 10 Dec 99 - 06:05 PM I went to Aberystwyth once. A friend said "you should go there. It's good for rheumatism". So I went and I got it.

Subject: RE: BS: Wales beats Tahiti! From: Llanfair Date: 10 Dec 99 - 06:46 PM Yes, Little Dorritt, it hasn't stopped since August 1997.This area has had floods four times this year, wax jackets and wellies aren't fashion items out here, they are necessities!!! Hwyl, Bron. |

Subject: RE: BS: Wales beats Tahiti! From: Jon Freeman Date: 10 Dec 99 - 07:20 PM If you want to see rain in Wales, visit Ffestiniog - I could be wrong but I believe that it is the rainiest place in the UK. Couple the rain with all the slate quarries there, and you have what is to me, one of the most depressing views in North Wales. Jon

Subject: RE: BS: Wales beats Tahiti! From: Jon Freeman Date: 10 Dec 99 - 07:31 PM Thinking of flooding in Wales, Llandudno had one a few years ago. Just a downpour but the drainage sytem could not cope and a lot of people had to move out into caravans or other temporary accomadation for a long while before the damage was repaired and there was also the flooding in Towyn (the one near Rhyl) that hit the news. Subject: RE: BS: Wales beats Tahiti! From: roopoo Date: 11 Dec 99 - 03:20 AM My son's at Uni in Pontypridd. Luckily he lives on a hill and can be a mere spectator at the regular River Taff Regattas and the "see-how-far-this-car-will-drive-over-the-top-of-a-2-foot-deep-flood" competition! When he called home 2 days ago it was to tell me they were actually mending the leek(!) in the roof. mouldy |
