And no, it is not Twilight Time, tis a different tune. Believe it was popular during the forties. Can anyone out there help? Typically, would love the sheet music as well as the lyrics. Thanks, all. |

Subject: RE: Lyric request/Purple shades @ evening ti From: Amos Date: 21 Feb 00 - 11:27 PM Is that the one that starts, "When the deep purple falls, over sleepy garden walls, "... (as distinguished from "Together, at last, at Twiligth Time" which is not what you want?) I know it got resurrected on the late Fifties or early Sixties hit parade but I can't recall by whom. |

Subject: ADD: Deep Purple From: Metchosin Date: 21 Feb 00 - 11:44 PM DEEP PURPLE (words by Mitchell Parish, music by Peter DeRose) When the deep purple falls Over sleepy garden walls. And the stars begin to flicker in the sky . Through the mist of a memory, You wander back to me. Breathing my name with a sigh. In the still of the night, Once again I hold you tight . Though you're gone your love lives on When moonlight beams . And as long as my heart will beat, lover we'll always meet . Here in my deep purple dreams. It was also recorded by Nino Tempo and April Stevens in the 1960's |

Subject: Lyr Add: PURPLE SHADES (from Joni James) From: Jim Dixon Date: 29 Oct 07 - 08:18 AM Copied from Google Answers PURPLE SHADES (Lyrics and music by Frank Lavere, Phil S. Dooley and Lew Douglas) Purple shades at eventide remind me of our love. Every time that they appear, it's you I'm thinking of. I know our love has ended. There's nothing left for me Of happiness that used to be. If, by chance, a new romance appears to be the thing, I'll just chart it on my wall as just another fling. Forgetting you completely would be the only rule, But I'll admit I'm just a fool. Your memory Keeps haunting me. My life would be Just misery While you're away. I'm not the same, And I'm to blame. I've played the game, And now I know that I must pay. Guess it's time to realize and tell my foolish heart There's no use to reminisce; the flame can never start. For purple shades are saying it's too late now to cry. Your love has gone. Farewell, goodbye. (Recorded by Joni James, 1952.) |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Purple Shades (from Joni James) From: GUEST Date: 09 Jul 12 - 02:17 PM There was a song in the fifties or a little later that was similar to the two listed above. It was by a female singer. I heard it a lot and liked it very much. Suddenly, it disappeared from the radio stations. I asked the gentleman who owned the radio station in our town why it was not heard anymore. His only comment was,"We can't play that anymore." Joseph McCarthy? Does this bring back a memory for anyone? |
