Subject: RE: Lyric Quote of the Day-Feb 22 From: Amos Date: 22 Feb 00 - 10:22 AM I am reminded of a poignant couplet from (I think) the old Pot Shots series, or somewhee similar...(well they do say that...whadyacallit...is the first thing to go...) "Isn't life remarkable! Isn't life just gay?! Isn't life the very thing To pass the time away! A little less inspirational than Sir Beau's offering, though. A |

Subject: RE: Lyric Quote of the Day-Feb 22 From: Willie-O Date: 22 Feb 00 - 10:38 AM Certainly true in the case of "The Short Reign of Pippin IV" (III?, I'm not sure) W-O Actually, you're lucky to still be around in the fall. The past six weeks, I've been waking every day to a local newscast of the latest dreadful testimony at the inquest into a workplace murder/suicide (five people dead) in Ottawa last year--and I knew one of the victims, who had a basement recording studio that I spent a few nights working in. Its difficult to keep hearing more and more, the way the public inquiry goes on, and on. (they're just wrapping up the witnesses statements today) I barely knew the guy, but the way the thing is in the media amplifier, it affects me. I can't imagine what it's like for the families, especially as it has become so politicized with the city bus company (the shooting was in the main bus garage), the police, the union, the shooter, his doctor and ultimately the victims coming under a very public microscopic dissection. All just trying to answer the impossible questions: why did this happen? Could it have been prevented? Why wasn't it? Here's to Dave LeMay, a heckuva guitar player, a nice guy with a good sense of humour. Here's to the rest of them too, and to their families who have shown incredible courage through this impossible time. Willie-O |
