Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight! 6/8/00 From: Richard Bridge Date: 09 Jun 00 - 02:50 AM Hmm. A spot of a gremlin here. 1. Has anyone else had trouble gett ing the sound OK on "HearMe". WHen Llanfair and I were around the first UK "hearme" she was a bit "scratchy" and apparently I was incomprehensible on the loud bits. I haave since tried a large combination of stuff input into my sound card and have been unable to get rid of distortion on the loud bits despite turning down virtually to inaudibility nor have I been able to get a decent lowere register. A bit of reverb (external analogue unit, Radioshack/Tandy) and a decent mic (tried IBM, Sure, and academy, settled for Samson)helped, bit still this sort of clicky thump on peaks. Haven't tried to get decent guitar sound yet. Next step I suppose full mixing desk with lots of bass eq and try to borrow a compressor. ANy thoughts? 2. I tried to post this to a new thread "HearMe(tech)" but the "start new thread" will not co-operate. If anyone else finds same, someone tell Max! |

Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight! 6/8/00 From: katlaughing Date: 09 Jun 00 - 03:11 PM Richard, ever since HearMe did an upgrade which my system downloaded when next I went in there, my speakers have sounded scatchy and unclear...it is really annoying...I've tried uninstalling, then reinstalling to no avail...it actually sounds as though I've blown my speakers, but when I check them with other midis and CDs they are fine. I remain convinced it has something to do with HearMe...sorry that isn't much help. To report a problem to Max, you can got to Mudcat Resources and click on the Help & Trouble Forumand post a message there. kat |

Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight! 6/8/00 From: Jon Freeman Date: 09 Jun 00 - 03:31 PM Richard, a number of people have struggled with Hearme and sound but other than kat's comments above, I am not aware of any problems specific to Hearme. Hearme does have an audio configuration utility but a number of us have found the results are innacurate. Probably the best thing to do is to use your set up to record a wav file and see how that turns out as the problem is unlikely to be with Hearme. Regarding equipment, many of us use cheap mikes and they seem to be quite adequate. I recently had a sound problem which meant I had to be about 2" from the mike to get it to pick up. The problem turned out to be somewhere on the mic in circuitry on my souncard and I fixed it by fitting a cheap SB16 soundcard for the inputs (I still use my old one for other purposes such as MIDI). A better solution would have been to use some external pre amp/ mixing device and go into the line in on the soundcard but we don't even have a Tandy round here any longer. The create new thread system does not like certain characters and brackets are amongst them - this is a known issue. Jon |

Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight! 6/8/00 From: Noreen Date: 09 Jun 00 - 05:32 PM When was this UK hearme then? I've got a new mic and would like to try it, but Mbo seems to start after I've gone to bed! Maybe I'll be lucky over the weekend? Noreen |

Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight! 6/8/00 From: Jon Freeman Date: 09 Jun 00 - 05:39 PM Noreen, Hearme starts whenever anybody wants to start it. The best plan is usually just to go there and announce your presence in Mudcat. Jon |

Subject: RE: HearMe Tonight! 6/8/00 From: Jon Freeman Date: 09 Jun 00 - 08:57 PM I have just spotted a bug in my latest version of the entry page to Hearme. If you enter any room other than the one used for singing, clicking the "join singing" button will take you back to that room. The work around is to leave my page and to come back. I will fix this sometime over the weekend. Jon |
