Does anybody know anything about this guy? I have a compilation CD of slide guitar and he does one cut on it called Bottleneck Blues — just blows me away. I've been listening to it for months and still can't figure out how just one guitar could be producing all those sounds simultaneously. Does anybody know if he had a rhythm player with him on that cut?

I searched Digitrad and Forum and found only one mention of him — in a thread on bottleneck player from back in '98. I would love to know more about him — when and where he lived, etc. — and whether there are any tapes or CDs of his stuff available.

Well, ddw, here's a bit I found on Google
http://members.aye.net/~kbsblues/awards.htm

I think several of the Yazoo compilations have cuts by Weaver on them, and Document probably has his complete repertoire in chronological order...

Lamarca — thanx a bunch! Not only does it point me in the right direction to find out more about Weaver, it has also put me onto a blues festival within easy driving distance.

Weaver's BIG hit was the "Guitar Rag" which is on a few compilations. By the time it became a huge seller done by Leon McAuliffe with the Bob Wills band, Sylvester was long forgotten. I've never found much bio material on him. Kind of like Blind Blake...the music IS the man. Great player!

don't know anything much about weaver but i know how he played. in open "d" or "e" and you work an alternating bass rythm with your thumb and slide on the upper strings. It sounds like two guitars playing at once. It's quite difficult to do and most modern guitar players just woundn't think like that. I've been wanting to put my version of "guitar rag" up on mp3.com but i can't find out if it is still under copywright.

The pride of my record collection is the 78 of "Guitar Rag" b/w " "Sylvester's Guitar Blues".

However,I think that any copyright that might have existed has been under Leon McAuliffe's name.
