Subject: Norfolk and chance From: Skipjack K8 Date: 12 Jun 00 - 12:33 PM Yeah, I've been busting to use this one, and now I've got the full metal jacket excuse! Yup, Skipjack's off to Norfolk UK (Not Virginia or Island)in number two vessel, Natterjack, for the summer hols. Even though my last box rusted up after floating round the foc'sle (during a rough thrash across le Rade de Brest in '92) I'm going armed and cruisin' for a session. Trouble is, I can't recall any Norfolk 'Catters, and I can't find any details of regular sessions in the county, so it's over to you cybercafe folk. Best regards Skipjack |

Subject: RE: BS: Norfolk and chance From: sledge Date: 12 Jun 00 - 12:53 PM There's a bunch called the Cromer Smugglers in north Norfolk, they operate as a fairly active group in support of the RNLI lifeboat and other charities so they might be able to point you in the right direction as its their home ground Sledge |

Subject: RE: BS: Norfolk and chance From: Skipjack K8 Date: 13 Jun 00 - 04:53 AM Sledge, how intuitive! Kill two birds with one stone, ingratiate myself with the lifeboat and book a place at a session. Thanks a lot, mate. Dave, I echo your sentiments. I haven't sent up a flare yet, but I feel the day is coming when the lights of the lifeboat will be the sweetest sight I ever see. I am duly fearful of the old grey widow-maker, shipmate. Terri M, er ....., it (Hugh Grant stutter) er,...... sort of depends on gender! It's not a rum bum & baccy sort of ship (well, not all of them!) I'm on the case with The Cromer Crooners. Thanks. Subject: RE: BS: Norfolk and chance From: Jon Freeman Date: 13 Jun 00 - 09:31 AM I recently stayed at my parents house which is near Cromer for a week. We didn't find any music outside Norwich but we went to a nice Irish session at O'Rourkes, Pottergate, Norwich on the Wednesday. The O'Rourkes session is a regular one and I gather that there are other sessions in the city but as I was returning to Wales the next day, I didn't take any details. Jon |

Subject: RE: BS: Norfolk and chance From: Linda Kelly Date: 13 Jun 00 - 02:59 PM it's all right for some-don't let work get in the way of your enjoyment will you! There is a shanty group called the Mollymauks who are based somewhere in the norfolk area .I do not know if they have a website or if they perform locally I'm afraid, but I am sure you will sniff something out.Don't go eating too many crabs will ya! |

Subject: RE: BS: Norfolk and chance From: Skipjack K8 Date: 15 Jun 00 - 06:44 AM Ickle Dorritt, that is no way to ingratiate yourself onto my ship. TerriM had the right idea, but I got a sound handbagging when I showed the thread to the Soup Dragon. I've looked up the Mollymauks, but havnae found any Norfolk ones. I think Wednesday evening at O'Rourkes in Narich (tha's roight, boooouy) is driveable (the good ship Natterjack isn't amphibious, it's her road tug). Best regards Skipjack |

Subject: RE: BS: Norfolk and chance From: Skipjack K8 Date: 15 Jun 00 - 12:10 PM Ickle, on second thoughts, seeing as you mentioned crabs, here's a story involving crabs and lateral thinking. Declan the humble crab and Kate the Lobster Princess were madly, deeply and passionately in Love. For months they enjoyed an idyllic relationship until one day Kate scuttled over to Declan in tears. "We can't see each other anymore...." she sobbed. "Why?" gasped Declan. "Daddy says crabs are too common," she wailed. "He claims you, a mere crab and a poor one at that, are the lowest class of crustacean... and that no daughter of his will marry someone who can only walk sideways." Declan was shattered, and scuttled sidewards away into the darkness to drink himself into a filthy state of aquatic oblivion. That night, the great Lobster Ball was taking place. Lobsters came from far and wide, dancing and merry making, but the lobster Princess refused to join in, choosing instead to sit by her father's side, inconsolable. Suddenly the doors burst open, and Declan the crab strode in. The Lobsters stopped their dancing, the Princess gasped and the King Lobster rose from his throne. Slowly, painstakingly, Declan the crab made his way across the floor...and all could see that he was walking not sideways, but FORWARDS, one claw after another! Step by step he made his approach towards the throne, until he finally looked King Lobster in the eye. There was a deadly hush. Finally, the crab spoke.
"F***, I'm pissed." Skipjack |

Subject: RE: BS: Norfolk and chance From: Skipjack K8 Date: 16 Jun 00 - 06:02 AM Liz, are they cold showers? My hobby has been described as tantamount to standing under a cold shower tearing up £10 notes. Please don't fight, ladies. You're on different watches anyway and it will be a blind tasting. Blind drunk, that is. I haven't had this much fun since I took tea with the Sex Slaves From Hell. I'll tell you that one at Llanfair's bash! Skipjack |
