Subject: Penguin: COMPLETED From: Alan of Australia Date: 02 Jul 00 - 11:22 AM G'day, I've finally finished all the lyrics (not already in the DT) for the Penguin Book Of English Folk Songs, edited by Ralph Vaughan Williams and A.L.Lloyd. I started this task when Ed Pellow sent me the MIDIs for all the songs to put on Mudcat MIDI site. This was an enormous contribution from Ed, the project never would have been started without his efforts. I've created the whole thing as a doubly linked list, meaning that each song has a link to the song before it and the song after it. The first song also links to the last, and the last links to the first. Find any Penguin song & you've found them all. For each letter of the alphabet, the first song starting with that letter also links to the Penguin Index provided by Joe Offer, another big job very well done.
Cheers, |

You never know when you will feel the need for inspiration, it is also a good book for a quick read. It sounds as though your version is easier to use, HMMM "thinks" I must get a laptop. Great Job. Subject: RE: Penguin: COMPLETED From: Ed Pellow Date: 05 Jul 00 - 03:01 PM Thanks for the kind words, though in truth Alan did a great deal more work on this than I ever did. I initially transcribed all the tunes in the book to midi for my own use - sight-reading not being my greatest strength. I'm please to share them with everyone's who's interested. For anyone who owns the book, but has similar sight-reading limitations, I've put a zip file of all the tunes on my web site. Click here to download it (23k) As Martin Carthy once described the book: "The single most important influence on the folk revival" Ed |
