Isn't it time for a mudcat olympics?

The golden wreath to be presented to the 'catter who can answer 10 obscure lyric queries in the fastest time.

The smart money would be on Joe Offer, with Pene Azul a good bet too.

There would doubtless be quieter catters, who might suprise, and come on the inside rail.

I hope we can hire catspaw for the commentary

How about an instrumental obstacle race? Three blasts on the Bombarde, a quick relay with a flute and then climbing over a pile of melodeons.

Or the shotput, substituting a melodeon for the shot.

Discus, using a bodhrain?

The javelin, where you throw a sharp pointy stick AT a melodeon.

Synchronised singing..... (there has to be a first time....)

Hurdles - running away from an angry audience whilst carrying a banjo?

Parallel bars - two pubs on either side of the street, the skill involved would be walking down the centre of the road without going into one.

I'm sure there are others, but I'm a bit frazzled today...

Weightlifting would be humping the PA gear around, or lifting a double bass into a luggage rack.

For the intelligence tests, we could have 'stowing the microphone leads so they don't end up like a plate of spaghetti when you take them out next time'.

I'd have to sit that one out ... I don't have quite enough breast to flip over the top ... just to nestle in the curve.

How 'bout a fiddle-bow-javelin-toss ... and no fair putting weights on the ends!

Is the "Lyric Forgetting" before or after the scheduled "Mondegreen Mumbling"? They wouldn't have been so crass as to schedule them in conflict now, would they?

Wait, I have to get my second autoharp out of hock (I mean repair). For the synchronized waterski event. I am sure that autoharps are better suited to this than lap dulcimers, which are too narrow.

Wider is better. And with dual pickups how can I lose?

Hardi will have the Bayou Butterfly (canoe) out and no doubt is ready to try for the banjo-paddle title if Jon will come over to take second paddle, but I know Rick and Bonnie will give them a real go now that she is no longer small and neophytic.

Dharmabum was over at our shop yesterday with his travel guitar, and I think he will win the fingerflight event hands down.

I hope Mbo gets here in time for the games, and that bes' bud Sorcha will bring along her fiddle too, for the Lisdoonvarna Marathon. I hear they been warming up with a little trip to Sligo.

Can I have the Jack Daniels and Guiness concessions? I'll donate a percentage to Mudcat. Maybe some vegetarian hotdogs too...

BTW where is Sorcha? I haven't heard her around Hearme or seen her posts.

OK, I'm back, and entered up in the Road to Lisdoonvarna Marathon, and the FiddleBow javelin competition, but what do I do if it goes limp? Are "limpies" allowed in competition? Will have to get tickets to the Underwater Morris Dancing, and the Parallel Bar on opening nite....(hi ya'll, I'm home!)

Crap. I'll work on being a 'rightie' for the javelin throw, and if that doesn't work I'll be sitting under the tree briding daisy chains with my toes to garland the winners.

How about the "too much time on your hands, ultimate folk-nurd olympics"?

Here's the question. There will be a prize if someone can answer it in the next 2 hours.

Pete Seeger used to sing traditional music duets with a young female who became a HUGE star on broadway.

What's her name?

Rick,I'm crap at these questions but I would like to put my name down for the 'get those last verses in quick before the bar closes' all-comers event and I fancy chancing my arm at the ' utterly irrelevant patter while you retune your guitar' over 500 metres......are we having prizes and if so, what will they be?

Carol Channing.

Hi Morticia. The prize was 10,000 dollars. But Oh well, maybe next time.

how about the 800metres Standing Outside the Door Relay?
In this event the challenge is to find the right key then all come in at the same time.

and hey - if it was Underwater Morris Dancing mightn't they all drow.......oh.....I see......
