Subject: RE: BS: need a name for a european project From: GUEST,Mrr Date: 12 Jul 00 - 12:01 PM See if you can get something to match EPICURE - hmm - European PIes and CURry Enterprises? And anyway, why stick to English? How about BOF - Board Of Food? (Bof means kind of Oh-well-who-cares in French). Or ROSBIF - Regional Occupational Society for the Betterment of International Food? Let's get creative here! |

Subject: RE: BS: need a name for a european project From: sian, west wales Date: 12 Jul 00 - 01:55 PM Youse guys is awful. A tetch more seriously, how about Consortium for/of Agri-Food Europe CAFE. And, yeh, they tend to be in French or Latin usually, don't they? (MEDIA, LEADER) Or named after something, rather than creating an acronym ... like the EU programmes Socrates, Euclid, etc. Speaking of LEADER, let me know more about this project. I work with the Welsh L. network and this sounds like it might be of interest... sian |

Subject: RE: BS: need a name for a european project From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 12 Jul 00 - 02:58 PM "Bid into Europe"? I can't keep up with the way the jargon is devolving... Seriously, what does that mean?
And which is the relevant language for whatever it is that's supposed to be happening anyway? Any language you use annoys some people and pleases others, so who needs to be pleased most? |

Subject: RE: BS: need a name for a european project From: GUEST,Mrr Date: 12 Jul 00 - 03:30 PM In the language suggestion, I was just trying to have fun. I think of the French when I think of good European food, so I thought a French word would be fun to spell, but am still spelling the words that compose the acronym in English because the main governmental language of the EU is (unfortunately, IMHO) English. Thus my ROSBIF suggestion was born. I took a "bid into Europe" to mean that they were bidding on a project to be happening in Europe and were trying to get the contract. I like their approach, if that is really the case! |

Subject: RE: BS: need a name for a european project From: Patrish(inactive) Date: 13 Jul 00 - 05:41 AM Thanks for all your suggestions. I would love to tell you all in the near future that I am working on The "Belch" project, or the "ROSBIF" project, but unfortunately the EU commission are not famous for their sense of humour. the final decision will be with my boss and his european partners, I just wanted to give him an amusing and useful list to start with - which is what you have helped me achieve. BIG THANKS. Don't want to bore you too much but will go on to tell you a little about the project. It is to establish a network of european regions - we will find out what each region does well (in the food sector) and other regions will try to copy this where appropriate (McGrath - jargon coming up) otherwise known as that old chestnut - best practice. We want more collaberation with europe to help make this particular sector more competitive. Yea motherhood and applepie........ but we do have some great ideas and willing partners - so fingers crossed that the commission like the proposal. Thanks again, I will let you know what gets picked for the project. Patrish |
