Something Animaterra said, over in Spaw's DONATION thread, gave me an idea.

I would appreciate your ideas and comments on the following. I do not intend it as any kind of usurpation of anyone's work, etc. I wonder if there are enough of us to do this, as a sort of Cooperative. Please let me know what you think. Thanks:

"How about I build a site like that (talking abotu the one where I put Spaw's son's photo) where Mudcatters can display their crafts etc. that they'd like to sell, with a portion going to the Mudcat? A sort of Mudcat Craftsperson's Co-op. All transactions would have to be between the individuals, I wouldn't want to be repsonsible in anyway for that, BUT I would love to maintain a *gallery* of photos for everyone. Whaddya think? I had already offered to put up some pix of anudder Mudder's SO's stuff...so...input, 'Catters, input!"

Thanks, again,

kat

Wouldn't this be duplication of effort? Pictures can already be posted on the auction pages. Am I missing something here?

Allan - I think what kat is suggesting is a virtual store for selling things on an ongoing basis as opposed to a one shot auction thing. For instance, suppose I make hand-woven baskets in my spare time. I could put one in the auction and once it is sold it's over and Mudcat gets the net proceeds. Additionally, I could send in a picture to this new site, with a price tag, and anyone who wants to purchase a basket can contact me and I'd sell them one.
Is that an accurate description of what you have in mind, kat?

Actually, we could do it from our own websites if we have them. I'll start with this one. I'll donate a dollar to the Mudcat (my profit margin isn't very big) from each item purchased at my shirt/mug/mousepad store. Alice Flynn tee shirt, mug, mousepad store.

That's great, Alice, I was hoping you would make some comments. I was just thinking that rather than taking up Max's time to get us all listed on the support page where other retailers are listed, and rather than just havea floating thread with our offers (which are very generous and kind), that it would be more of a "centrally-located" thing. Those who have websites with more info could put up one sample pix with a link of something.

I've actually been thinking of this a lot in the past two years. Knowing there were many of us who do like you do, Alice, but not having a set place where we could offer our support to one another or send others to for purchases.

Thanks, let's keep talking everyone...

kat

A page for links as well as a "home" for those who don't have their own site is a good thing (Martha Stewart?) all contributing to Mudcat, more the merrier.

Yeah, thanks Morty, et al. I guess the next queston would be, "who among you has something you'd like to list/showoff/offer, etc.?"

Sure it would Bill. In fact I've been thinking about your stuff and have always wanted to see more of it. All we'd have to do is put up a couple of pictures. With contact info. If you want any help getting a site up quickly and easily with prefab designs, I've have had some luck....this could be a lot of fun, I think!

Could someone ring up Martha and tell her my house is a mess and while she's here trying to keep even with the daily stuff, could she make some of those homemade potato chips with the little parsley sprig in each one?

Spaw--Good idea BTW

If you lot are serious - I'll offer to design and host it.

I've designed a few sites (mostly for collegues and friends)and would be pleased to put in the work providing people are serious about this - and it isn't just a whim...

Sorry if that sounds negative - but, well I'm sure you know what I'm saying...

I'm serious, provided I could find a soild way to insure that the money going to Mudcat came from a Mudcat referal... No offence, but I'm not gonna donate 5 bucks to the cat everytime I get a chanimaille order... I may have to attach a skill testing question! LOL!!!

Anyone got any ideas?

Grey Wolf, I have thought for quite awhile that Mudcat has aspects of a benign cult (insider language, etc.) but for it to be a destructive cult, it needs to have the aspects of deception (what it is behind the scenes is not what it appears to be on the surface) and control (one gradually has more and more of their life taken over in time, money, close relationships...... hmmmmmm... maybe I need to reconsider that "benign" label). ;-)
