Subject: 1000 Days From: Tony Burns Date: 28 Aug 00 - 05:26 PM Mudder JeffM pointed me to Whoohoo where I learned that my grand-daughter (the talented and beautiful Erica) will be 1,000 days old on Sept. 14th. Now I'm looking for ideas to celebrate this event. She lives on the other side of the continent so I will not be able to do something in person. Money might be an option although 1,000 pennies or 1,000 dollars seems to be the most obvious choices. The first is too little and the latter is unaffordable and I'd rather come up with something more meaningful. Any ideas? btw, I will be 20,000 days two days later. |

Subject: RE: Help: 1000 Days From: Ebbie Date: 28 Aug 00 - 09:09 PM A thousand pennies for a 3-year-old doesn't seem 'too little' to me. I'm sure it would look like a great deal more money to her than a $1000 bill would. At that age, quantity not quality is probably more meaningful. How about putting them into a slotted jar and mailing it to her? Happy Birthday to both of you. Ebbie |

Subject: RE: Help: 1000 Days From: Tony Burns Date: 28 Aug 00 - 09:41 PM Good ideas. Probably couldn't get 1000 pages of music together in time. I wonder how much it would cost to mail the 1000 pennies? Probably more than $10.00. Maybe I can get her uncle to put it together for me if I decide to do that. Keep the ideas coming. |

Subject: RE: Help: 1000 Days From: Ebbie Date: 28 Aug 00 - 09:59 PM Oh, and adding a silver dollar minted in the year she was born can also be a big hit. My sister did that for my daughter and my daughter loved it; it was "my dollar". |

Subject: RE: Help: 1000 Days From: katlaughing Date: 28 Aug 00 - 10:02 PM Give her a set of new money, one of each denomination that are dated for this, the start of the new millennium. I don't know if Canada has done much new with theirs or not, but the US has been updating its designs, so we have new paper and a special series of new quarters, one for each state, although only a few states per year are being minted and released. How about giving her a "millipeed" farm?**BG** 1,000 seeds of flowers to plant or bulbs to plant? 1,000 minutes of prepaid long-distance phone card time to call her "Grandpa" (don't know if that's a consideration or not.) 1,000 words which tell her why you love her and she is so special...put to a tune or done in a poem, or one of those A is for the way..." etc. This is fun. Please be sure to keep us posted. kat |

Subject: RE: Help: 1000 Days From: KT Date: 29 Aug 00 - 01:24 AM How about a cassette tape of Grandpa's voice......reading her stories, perhaps some of your favorites when you were her age, telling her stories about your life....(Once upon a time there was a little boy named Grandpa....), and stories about her mommy or daddy when they were little, singing some of your favorite songs, making up a simple little love song with her name in it......Give her your voice on tape. She will cherish it!! Have fun !!!
