I've become aware that I have a serious deficiency in the standard party songs; you know, the ones that at least 50% of the group is familiar enough with to play along with, and are upbeat and rhythmic. What I'm looking for are the more obscure but still beloved songs that fit this category. All help is appreciated!

Tom Lehrer's make great party songs. "The Vatican Rag," and "Pollution" are party songs with an edge.My favorite ones without the edge are "The Bog Down In The Valey" and "The Barley Mow."

The Price To Pay (The Party, Party Song)

Well, you saw me walk in that door
Looked at you and liked what I saw
Living life is what it's for
Nothing more

I could talk to you all night
It was dark, 'til you put on the light
No need to be polite
It's alright

C'mon and party on, my dear
You bring the whisky, I'll bring the beer
It's Paddy's night and New Year
Over here

Let's get out of this bar
My place ain't heaven, but it's not too far
Remember, wherever you go,
Well there you are

It may not last too long
But it's alright, 'til it's all wrong
If it lasts 'til the booze is gone
Then you're the one

C'mon and party on, my dear
You bring the whisky, I'll bring the beer
It's Paddy's night and New Year
Over here

We wear the scars of many battles
The wrong moves made at the wrong time
The past spreads behind us, like a bruise
We're prisoners free, to repeat the same crime….

Well, pass that bottle round
Think I'm on that 'holy ground'
Nothing's lost and nothing's found
We'll paint this town

Tomorrow is another day
We'll drink this night away
We know the price to pay
And it's OK

C'mon and party on, my dear
You bring the whisky, I'll bring the beer
It's Paddy's night and New Year
Over here

Well, at the kind of parties we have/attend, most all of our friends are familiar with John Prine songs.

Depends on the party.

Songs like 'One finger one thumb' would be great for kids. But for MY kind of party search for @BAWDY

Got my Mojo Working (but it just don't work on you!)
Bring It On Home To Me - Sam Cooke Take me to The River - Al Green Dock of the Bay - Odis Redding

Songs along those lines work well!
