Subject: Little Red Label From: Llanfair Date: 05 Sep 00 - 11:44 AM I caught a programme on Radio 4 today which covered the history of Topic records. I expect it will be repeated one evening. It included interviews with Martin Carthy and family, Toni Arthur, June Tabor and lots more. The theme appeared to be the survival of a "minority" label without lottery funding- or any other funding except record sales. Releasing Irish music during the lean years seems to have kept the label afloat. June Tabor talked about the label giving her the opportunity to do the material that she wanted to do, without having to be "commercial". Well worth hearing if you get the chance. On Thursday, I think, there is a further programme about the growth of folk music in America. I'll be tuning in!!! Bron. |
