Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: hesperis Date: 10 Sep 00 - 02:46 PM I'm working. Grrr! And if I wasn't working, I'd be Circle Dancing that day... But this needs to be refreshed, so I'm posting this here anyway. If anyone's going, have some extra fun for me, okay? |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Little Neophyte Date: 10 Sep 00 - 06:31 PM Oh this sounds really good Bill, I am going to try and work something out so I can come. Bonnie |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: sophocleese Date: 10 Sep 00 - 08:16 PM Oh well hesperis, Rick will be at ODAS park in Orillia this Friday so you could try to see him, at least, there. |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: katlaughing Date: 11 Sep 00 - 12:05 AM Well, Willie-O, I'd like to make a scene with some newgrass, but I am afraid I don't have a passport!*BG* Have fun, phoaks, it sounds like another great one! kat |
|
Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Willie-O Date: 11 Sep 00 - 08:31 AM No passport required, it's an open border, more or less. Thanks for the interest, Toronto area folks. Why don't you all get yourselves a convoy? It's about a (reasonably pleasant) 3.5 hour drive from the big smoke to downtown McDonalds Corners. And I know Bonnie's serious about going, if anyone's looking for ride-sharing. (Rick is playing in Ottawa Saturday so will be leaving Fri or Sat). This'll be good. Real good. W-O |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Rick Fielding Date: 11 Sep 00 - 10:20 AM Have some great memories from Orillia. My first ever pro travelling gig was to a place called Owaissa Lodge (sp?) about 32 years ago. Ended up in a canoe on the lake with two others at 3 am. singing (fake) Gregorian chants! McDonald's Corners will be a first. Lookin' forward to it. Also Sydenham on Saturday. Gotta remember to bring my kazoo for LittleHawk to look at. Rick |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Jeremiah McCaw Date: 12 Sep 00 - 05:50 AM Sydenham, you say. Got a half-brother what lives there. Me Ma is not far in Perth Road Village. Details, man. Details! I got a gig myslf on the 24th in Oakville, but may be able to be up that way on the Saturday. Talk to us, Rick . . . |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Rick Fielding Date: 12 Sep 00 - 10:30 AM Hi Jeremiah. I'm still too stupid to remember how to do website locations (although Peter T and Tony Burns have tried to show me a dozen times) but if you can find my website, it's got the details. Hope yer half bro. can make it. Rick |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: catspaw49 Date: 12 Sep 00 - 10:54 AM First, my computer impaired friend, you could simply say that your Homepage is listed in your profile at Mudcat Resources under the "Quick Links." There's a hot link and everything!!!! Neat, huh? Or, as a special favor, I'll give you a blue clicky thing right here for all to use to your Homepage. BLUE CLICKY TO RICK'S HOMEPAGE AND NOW SINCE YOU OWE ME.........How about a few of your favorite instrument related sites that we can put on the "Instrument Related" page of the regular LINKS section? I know you have a few preferences that might have web addys, so tell me what they are and I'll try to get them on the page. I would be deeply in your talented, musical chop laden, debt.....if not your computer non-chop debt.(:<)) Spaw |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Peter T. Date: 12 Sep 00 - 12:36 PM You could also tell us where the hell McDonald's Corners is. Most of North American could be called McDonald's Corners by now. yours, Peter T. |
|
Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Steve Latimer Date: 12 Sep 00 - 01:06 PM Amen Peter T, I won't be able to make this one, but I would strongly recommend seeing these fellas. I've seen Rick on a couple of occassions and I assure you that if you're anywhere near McDonald's Corners that you won't be disappointed. Wonderful musician, and a very compelling and entertaining performer. |
|
Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Peter T. Date: 12 Sep 00 - 02:11 PM Hey, thanks for narrowing down the geography Steverino! I urge you all to go to the McDonald's near you. At least one of you may strike it lucky. Rick and his friends (Luke Skywalker) will be handing out mugs with their mugs on it at a corner McDonalds somewhere on plant Earth. The first recipient will be feted, the second fetid, and the third fated. yours, Peter T. |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: catspaw49 Date: 12 Sep 00 - 02:15 PM Ya' think I could get a free McCluck or a couple of McCarps if I find the right one? Spaw |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Willie-O Date: 12 Sep 00 - 02:23 PM Enh, PT, you Torontonians are so provincial. Its easy to find McDonalds Corners--I do it every day! From Hwy 7 in Perth, (if you pass McDonalds going eastwards, you've gone too far already) ya go north on 511 8 km, left at Balderson, 1 km and take the first right, go through Fallbrook, left on Cty Rd 12. Go 9 Km and you're in the Corners. Take the first left (9th line) as you enter the village and The Schoolhouse is on your left. Theres a map and all that stuff on the schoolhouse website. Willie-O |
|
Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: catspaw49 Date: 12 Sep 00 - 02:29 PM So is there a Mickey D's there or not? And what about any Anadian specialties? The McD's in Maryland have crab stuff. Got any McMoose or something? Spaw |
|
Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Steve Latimer Date: 12 Sep 00 - 02:48 PM I think given it's proximity to South Porcupine that Rotten Ronnies have passed on featuring a local specialty. |
|
Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Jeremiah McCaw Date: 14 Sep 00 - 02:22 AM Ack! Further clarification, pretty please. I get a confused impression of when the Sydenham thing is happening. The earlier post implied next weekend (23rd), but website say this one (16th). I be seriously confused . . . |
|
Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Willie-O Date: 14 Sep 00 - 05:56 PM Yeah, what's up with that Sydenham biz Rick? I thought Rick was doing two gigs in Ottawa on the 23rd. If anybody really cares, there is no McDonalds in McDonalds Corners. (And as far as I know, there are no McDonalds either.) The nearest McD's, in Perth, has absolutely nothing to distinguish it from any other Rotten Ronnies, anywhere. South Porcupine is actually near Timmins, about twelve hours drive north of here. Bill |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: GUEST,Guy Wolff Date: 14 Sep 00 - 07:18 PM would love to see this show. All the best guy |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Jeri Date: 14 Sep 00 - 07:36 PM Is South Porcupine is anywhere near Elk's Crotch? Could be a prickly situation, if you get my point... |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Duckboots Date: 14 Sep 00 - 08:06 PM Ah, Rick is spreading confusion again! He's right though, I point in him the correct direction and tell him "drive, and don't forget to come home"! Here's his schedule for the next two weekends, look forward to seeing any catters who might come by. September 15, 2000 FridayFolk, ODAS Park in Orillia Contact Jennifer Ives at cyberfolkie@hotmail.com for reservations. ODAS Park is located just off Hwy 12 west. ODAS is first left and is pretty well marked. September 16, 2000 Sydenham Folk Club, Grace United Church, Sydenham Ontario. e-mail jallman@ibm.net for more information September 23, 2000 Rasputins Folk Cafe, 696 Bronson Ave., Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Marion Date: 14 Sep 00 - 09:14 PM Willie-o, I'm pleased that the starting point of your directions is Perth - I guess Perth seems like the centre of the universe for you out there? :) Unfortunately I'm living in Cape Breton now and can't make it. While maybe I shouldn't say unfortunately - it's a good thing on the whole - but in this microsituation I regret not being able to go to the show. Well, I hope to visit my Mom in Perth sometime this winter, so next time I'll get the scoop from you on what's going on. I wouldn't playing Maple Sugar with you either. My visits home have been pretty dry musically speaking since Tianakeem's closed down. Marion |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Marion Date: 14 Sep 00 - 09:18 PM I mean, of course, that I wouldn't MIND playing Maple Sugar with you. Marion |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: sophocleese Date: 15 Sep 00 - 01:31 PM Umm, sorry to divert the thread again from next weekend's gig but I just wanted to say that I'm looking forward to seeing you tonight Rick. Cheers. |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Rick Fielding Date: 15 Sep 00 - 02:36 PM Thanks Soph. Just got back from the recording studio (perhaps more on that later), gettin' ready to head up North. Rick |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Willie-O Date: 15 Sep 00 - 06:47 PM Heather, maybe you should try giving him a MAP. (and a calendar?) Marion, that's too bad, although not for you. We'll have a bunch of stuff going on in the winter--to be posted on the website thar in due course. There is a TON of music in Perth and here this fall...you are missing somehting of that. Maple Sugar is in my future again this year I suppose. W-O |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Rick Fielding Date: 16 Sep 00 - 12:20 PM Thanks so much to Jennifer and the Orillia folks for your wonderful hospitality last night....and Soph, get over your cold! Rick |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: sophocleese Date: 16 Sep 00 - 04:28 PM I'm working on it Rick, sitting right here with a kitchen full of fresh veggies and a hot cup of tea. Last night's performance was wondeful. I envy all those who will get to see Rick this next weekend. At one point when Rick was playing slide the woman next to sighed and said, "I can hear the words." Marvelously expressive music. Thank you, Rick. PS. The rosewood kazoo is also very nice. |
|
Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Rick Fielding Date: 17 Sep 00 - 12:24 PM Does Littlehawk know about the rosewood Kazoo yet? Rumour says it may get cloned by an enterprising luthier in those parts. Rick |
|
Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: sophocleese Date: 17 Sep 00 - 02:51 PM Hmm.. I don't know if he's read this thread lately, he may read the one flattop started so I'll post the information there. If not I'll tell him when I see him tomorrow night. I feel so priveleged; I've seen Little Hawk's knees and now Rick Fielding's rosewood kazoo. What is left on this planet for me to see? |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: catspaw49 Date: 17 Sep 00 - 02:55 PM Have you met Paw and Cletus and Fielding's half brothers Reg, Reg, and Reg? Spaw |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Willie-O Date: 24 Sep 00 - 10:10 AM Well, showtime is today. I'm always edgy these mornings. (Will anyone come to the show?) Called Fielding last night before he played at Rasputins. Sure enough he had lost or forgotten the directions to McDonalds Corners. Heather, next time pin them to his gig bag or something...if he's spent 30 years on the road, it was probably cause he was lost. I can picture it. "What town is this? Never mind, can I play a gig while I'm here?" Sorry Rick, just kiddin, did I mention I was edgy? Chris Coole is driving up from Toronto today too, so there's two Torontonians converging on the Corners. I have to go check the homing beacon now... (we were just watching "The Last Flight of Amelia Earhart"--the batteries ran out on the homing beacon set up for her, and look how that turned out...) Nah, IT'LL BE GREAT. At least I set up the sound in advance and made sure the (second) new board worked. Previous one was DOA, a situation discovered when we tried to have a coffeehouse... Willie-O Willie-O |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Rick Fielding Date: 25 Sep 00 - 09:53 AM Man, those Ottawa (and MacDonald's Corners) folks treat you great! Thanks for everything. Rick |
|
Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Willie-O Date: 25 Sep 00 - 09:55 AM Show went great. My gosh, where do I start. Comfortably full house, new sound system worked smoothly...performers and front house help showed up in good time, and everybody was transfixed by wonderful performances. Dan and Chris did an engaging set of old to new bluegrass, joined by a wonderful fiddler named Erin. I've never seen Rick in concert before and he sure knows how to make a set happen--it's kind of an extension of his Mudcat personality. He had all the other performers sitting in with him on various numbers. He was really happy to be playing in an old one-room schoolhouse, remarking that it was a traditional venue for the music he plays. This whole big deal was played out for an audience of about 40 lucky attendees, which is a near-full house (well, it's a classroom!). Talk about microeconomics. Afterwards we repaired to Dan's mom's farmhouse on the (rugged) north shore for a great meal and jam. Aside from the performance itself, this was the big payoff for me--I don't often get to sit down in a roomful of great musicians and have an instant band that feels totally natural. Last I saw of Rick, I scrawled out a map to show him how to find Highway 7...and away went the troubadour into the North Shore Night. (That's the shore of Dalhousie Lake.) Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Rick Fielding Date: 25 Sep 00 - 10:20 AM Help Willie! Thanks to your directions, I'm somewhere in Northern Ontario running through the woods being chased by two "maple syrup shiners" who thought I was a revenuer. They've got me cornered and are telling me to "Squeal like a Beaver!" I think one of them's got a canoe in his pants and he looks like he's happy to see me! Wait a minute....there's Burt Reynolds in the distance.....he's taking aim...... Rick |

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Willie-O Date: 25 Sep 00 - 12:09 PM Rick, I told ya to turn left at the end of the driveway. You obviously turned right, went through the spooky woods with all the hand-splattered No Trespazzin This Meens Yoo signs that the old hermit put up before his mysterious disappearnce,, then following my directions turned right on the Robertson Lake road, twenty miles of gravel about as straight as G W Bush's autobiography and are now up in a tree somewhere near Matawatchewan... Guess I'll try to practice my cartography a bit before the next hapless folksinger ventures through here... Willie-O

Subject: RE: East Ontario: Fielding & Friends Show From: Marion Date: 21 Dec 00 - 01:02 PM Hey Willie-o! I plan to be based in Perth between December 27 and January 1. Do you have any gigs in that time? Or might you be interested in playing together a little in some living room or other? If so, PM me and we can exchange contact info. Also, I expect to do some steel-string guitar shopping in Ottawa while I'm there. Are there any stores (or specific guitars) you want to recommend? I'm thinking of spending about 400-500 dollars, and will give special consideration to a less-than-dreadnought size (should that be called a dreadsome?). Thanks, Marion |
