Anytime you think you are beginning to be skilled at guitar, just listen to Statesboro Blues. It will keep you humble. Works for me - and gives you a new plateau to aim at.

I agree Mark. He generally does Stateborough in Drop D. If you isolate the licks he's doing against the bass, you can get it. It took me a while, to get comfortable with it. Like patting your head and rubbing your tummy at the same time sort-of-thing. Difference is, he's also singing while he's doing it! I just play it as an instrumental.

I was wondering where this thread went, thanks for the refresh Mike. "Statesboro Blues" can also be well done in DADGAD, but trying to play like Bromberg ain't so easy.

I've seen him only twice, but I've worn the grooves out on his old vinyl. I don't think a more well rounded guitarist exists. All the blues extemporising and funky 18 minute songs are cool, but watch the man's fingers, they are amazing in scope of style.

I saw Bromberg live at the Bachannal in San Diego with his Big Band reunion.Friend of mine and I sat at a cocktail table for two with our feet propped up on the stage.I still don't know how he plays like that even after watching his fingers so closely.

And they never left the end of his hands.
