Subject: RE: HELP!! calluses are spliting From: John Hardly Date: 03 Oct 00 - 11:52 AM Ma-K Seriously? What works is to CAREFULLY toothpick some superglue into the crack and then press the two sides together. As a full time potter and all the time guitar player I've had to do this many times. I was told that it is used as an alternative to suture in some cases. JUST DON'T GLUE FINGERS TOGETHER WHILE DOING THIS. John millring Hardly |

Subject: RE: HELP!! calluses are spliting From: Sorcha Date: 03 Oct 00 - 02:02 PM There is great stuff called "NuSkin" that works better than super glue. Available at pharmacies, usually. |

Subject: RE: HELP!! calluses are spliting From: bflat Date: 03 Oct 00 - 06:32 PM Mary, the glue will work temporarily. I keep a jar of No-Crack, found at Restoration Hardware, available for my hands and especially my finger tips around the nails and calluses. Slop that stuff on and work it in until the pain is gone. Sometimes is takes a few days of application. Stay away from lemons in the meanwhile. Ouch! bflat |

Subject: RE: HELP!! calluses are spliting From: Little Neophyte Date: 03 Oct 00 - 10:16 PM At night before you go to bed it might help to rub vitamin E ointment into the cracked areas. Once the area has healed it may be a good idea to continue using the ointment at night on a regular basis to prevent further cracking. Good luck, Little Neo |

Subject: RE: HELP!! calluses are spliting From: CamiSu Date: 04 Oct 00 - 08:36 AM I'd go back to Bag Balm, put it on at night and wear cotton gloves so you don't get the bed sticky. ( I used to put it on at the end of work when I was plastering, and then drive home. I didn't have gloves and the steering wheel got pretty awful.) I have heard good things about superglue, and I have also used NuSkin and something to bridge the gap, like pellon tape, or in a pinch, Kleenex. Then I keep Curel next to the bed, as I sometimes wake up with my hands so dry they burn... |

Subject: RE: HELP!! calluses are spliting From: kimmers Date: 05 Oct 00 - 12:15 AM Superglue, or a form of it, is indeed used to close some lacerations and is perfectly safe. But only use a tiny amount, and keep some acetone (nail polish remover) handy in case you get stuck to something. It does help to hold the little wound closed for a few seconds with tweezers while the glue is drying. We use special plastic tweezers with little non-stick pads. One of my partners was using the new tissue glue to fix a cut on a teenage girl's face when he accidently glued his finger to her forehead. Of course, he had none of the solvent with him, nor was there a nurse handy. He finally had to send the girl's dad out to find the nurse to get the solvent to unstick the doc. |
