Hi, I'm trying to track down the full lyrics to a song that Bob Dylan sang last night. It's called Blue Bonnet Girl.

first line: Down in Texas there's a blossom blooming in the moonlight

chorus: Blue bonnet girl, a Texas moon caresses you, leaving her light, soft as the night.

music by Glenn Spencer words-P/P/D: Hollywood Cal.: American Music Inc. 1936

it has been recorded by Roy Rogers and Jimmie Davis

thanks, chris pyle

Thanks for dropping in, Chris. Normally a lyric request gets a response in just a few minutes - especially if the song title (or words germane to the song) are featured in the thread title. I did a brief search on this song and was unable to locate anything helpful. I suggest you post a NEW thread with the song name in the thread title.

Hi I'm looking for the lyrics of a song - sung by Jim McCann called "Times have Changed". It's on his album Jim McCann/Greatest Hits Live.

Can anyone help?

Guests, for best response you need to create a new thread, select the "LyrReq" header, and put the title (or if you don't know that some phrase from the song) as the thread title. Otherwise, people who don't know the lyrics to THIS song will never re-open this thread, and yet they may know the lyrics to YOUR song.

Just FYI.

I have a 1936 Los Angeles recording by Jimmie Davis of a song titled 'My Blue Bonnet Girl', but it seems to be different from what you describe. The attribution is to Davis alone, although Tony Russell notes that it was claimed by the songwriter Bonnie Dodd. The first line is:

From the wild coyote's howl where the little dogies prowled

The chorus is:

You can keep your violets blue
Keep your pretty daisies too
I don't want but one flower in this world
She's the fairest in the land
And I mean to win the hand
Of my sweet Texas blue bonnet girl

--Stewie.

I searched all over too and couldn't find a thing either. But I did note that Don Meixner has mentioned this one a few times in threads regarding the "Sons of the Pioneers." I PMed him and asked that he check in here if he has any info.

AGAIN, TO OUR GUESTS>>>>>>>

PLEASE ... When requesting lyrics its best to search the database and the forum FIRST...and then start a NEW THREAD with either the TITLE or a LINE FROM THE SONG inthe title of the thread and use the LYR REQ prefix. This will get better results than adding on to another thread that is already vague, such as this one. We try to answer all of these, but they are easy to miss unless you do it as I just said. Thanks for coming to the Mudcat and feel free to hang out.

Spaw

BLUE BONNET GIRL
Glenn Spencer
As recorded by Sons of the Pioneers

Blue Bonnet Girl,
A Texas moon caresses you,
Leaving her light
Soft as the night
Deep in your eyes.

Blue Bonnet Girl,
I'm sure the southern breezes too
Pause for a kiss
You'll never miss
As they go by.

Warm as the spring
Gentle and sweet
True as the Alamo.
You'll find the world at your feet
Wherever you go.

And if the clouds
Should fail to let the sunshine through
Making me blue
I'll come to you
Blue Bonnet Girl.

MY BLUE BONNET GIRL
As recorded by Jimmie Davis

From the wild coyote's howl
Where the little dogies prowl
Have I roamed in a wide-open world
How I'd love to be again
Back a-ridin' on the range
Just to be with my blue-bonnet girl

For no other flow'r can be
Half as beautiful to me
I have seen roses bloom red and white
I have traveled east and west
But the flow'r that I love best
Blossoms neath Texas moonbeams tonight

You can keep your vi'lets blue
Keep your pretty daisies too
I don't want but one flower in this world
She's the fairest of the land
And I mean to win the hand
Of my sweet Texas blue-bonnet girl
