Subject: The last of the Snaith Plough Stots From: roopoo Date: 05 Nov 00 - 07:31 AM This may be of limited interest, but it's my sad duty to report that Mr. Arthur Walker of Snaith died last week. I only found out this morning at church: his funeral was friday. I would have liked to have been there. I always promised myself I would when the time came. He was a very self-effacing man. Typical that I didn't find out until too late! It is from him that I collected the Snaith dance, and the route it took in early January. He was often seen until recently, riding his bike in Snaith to do his shopping - and he was nearly 90! Luckily I taped my conversation several years ago with him. He was a fine old gentleman and our last link with the Snaith Plough Stots. Andrea |

We had some very good times with the Infamous Audreys, a plough stot dance side started by Mouldy, myself and a few others following her research into this forgotten tradition and relying quite heavily on Arthur Walkers memories of the dancers in the region in his early years. Sadly the side folded but the tradition has been brought back into living memory thanks to Mr. Walker. |

Subject: RE: The last of the Snaith Plough Stots From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 05 Nov 00 - 12:08 PM Sorry to hear about Mr. Walker. I remember the Audreys, and was particularly taken with the way they used to argue while dancing! I hope we'll see a new side out some day. Malcolm |
