Subject: LEJ's Mudcat Election HQ part two From: BlueJay Date: 08 Nov 00 - 02:50 PM I don't know how to split these threads with blickys and all, other than start a new thread, but at 142 replies, the thread needs splitting. It's so weird: the Presidential Election may be decided on a fewthousand mail-in votes to Florida. One very cool thing. A while ago, Ralph Nader was asked about the possibility of him costing Gore the election. He said, (paraphrased), "Actually Al Gore cost ME the election". The more I hear, the better I like this guy. Especially when he talks about the movement of both parties: namely to the right. E.G. "The Democratic Party is best at electing bad excuses for Republicans". Right now, it's unclear whether Gush or Bore will be the President. But in 2004, I will strongly consider voting third party, which I didn't have the courage to do in this election. Polls show a large majority of Americans support the idea of a viable third party. We just haven't moved there yet. (I know this has been covered before, by Ross Perot's Reform Party, now headed by Pat Buchanan). Happy few days while we sort this shit out. BlueJay |

Subject: RE: BS: LEJ's Mudcat Election HQ part two From: Bill D Date: 08 Nov 00 - 03:48 PM if Bush wins, I'll bet that in a couple years you sure will be willing to vote for somebody else!....I'd vote for a 3rd party IF they had a complete, real platform I agreed with, and not just some narrow, single issue bitching or "all those OTHER politicians are corrupt...give ME power and I won't be..." ...POOH! |

Basically, I had to do some hosp time and couldn't play here with the Mudcat Talking Heads. One helluva' night and all I could think of was that I wanted to be HERE BSing with this crew. Read my other post if you give a damn, but this was/is one historic election. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: LEJ's Mudcat Election HQ part two From: Susan A-R Date: 08 Nov 00 - 10:23 PM Wow! I spent yesterday evening playing fiddle with the boys. When I ot home I listened for a bit, and the picture was confusing at best. At least the candidate for governor here in VT who was so violently (and hatefully) opposed to civil union (which is now legal here) got beaten soundly. Some awful things happened in the legislature here, and I feel shades of 1980 coming on as far as the presidential stuff, but I shall hang in there and hope. Big Mick, thanks for the reminder. I have spent much of today saying to myself "if we survived 1980, we can manage this one." Of course, there are folks who have not survived the damage done in 1980. Brrrrrr
