My Dad taught it to me like this:

She was winding down the mountain doing 90 miles an hour
When the chain on her bicycle broke.
They found her in the pass with a sprocket up her ass
She was tickled to death by the spokes.

God rest my old man. He was full of these gems.

Hi there
Just wondering if anyone would be able to help with possible chords for the Max Miller song (below) originally posted on this page in 2006 by Rusty Dobro.
Many Thanks. . . . . . J.

From: Rusty Dobro

And from the Music Halls:
^^
LET'S HAVE A RIDE ON YOUR BICYCLE

When I was a lad,
I was bicycle-mad,
I rode in between motor cars.
But make no mistake,
I could put on the brake
Without touching my handlebars.

But I gave up biking, went hiking instead,
To a girl on a bike in the country I said,

Ch: Let's have a ride on your bicycle,
Let's have a ride on your bike,
She put her bicycle under a tree,
I think that girl took a fancy to me,
She said to me as we both sat down,
'Tell me, what would you like?'
I said, 'My dear, if there's nobody near,
I'd like ride on your bike!

Ch:
After the ride I began to perspire,
It wasn't the ride, I'd been pumping her tyre.
I said to her as she rode away,
'Come back whenever you like,
But don't tell your husband when you get back home,
I've had a ride on your bike!'

She went slidin' through the grass with the sprocket up her ass and her titties playin' Dixie on the spokes.

Right, here's the other verse for the Max Miller song:

Now old Farmer Green, he's a good old has-been,
Of children he's more than a score.
Of wives he's had three, 'Now we're parted' said he,
But he still keeps the wolf from the door.
'You've got all these kids' I said, 'I can't get one,'
He whispered to me when I said 'How's it done?'
He goes for a ride on his bicycle,
He goes for a ride on his bike,
He gets up at six when he hears the alarm,
And after he's milked all the cows on his farm,
He goes for a ride on his bicycle,
To know where he goes I would like,
Today he rode by, I shouted, 'Hi Hi!
Let's have a ride on your bike!'

Any advance on that?

I was in my sophomore year in high school, l954, when I first heard this song. It had been written, produced and recorded by then so anything after that was not someone's original be it a relative or friend or a popular singer. The original recorded words were:

"I was goin' round the corner doin' 90 miles an hour when the chain on my bicycle broke", and etc.

The song didn't go on forever and there wasn't any vulgarity to it. As far as talent goes, there wasn't much of that either. Just a fun song kids in high school or junior high could sing. It became a popular camp song in the early to mid 50's. Sure enough someone wrote it and it has entertained people ever since.

I think it was a version from a " Webb Brothers" album. Gympie musicians...

just thinking about it today funnily enough..

This is the longest lasting thread I've ever seen on the internet. Almost 10 years of dialogue about a song from 60 years ago. I am amazed. My husband remembered this song, and we were looking for the lyrics. So Thank you for being such a resource.
And further more, He was going down the track doing 90 miles an hour, when the chain on his bicycle broke. He landed in the grass, with a sprocket up his *ss, and tickled to death by the spokes".

I have been trying to find a down loadable version of this song to pass on to my nephews. My dad used to sing it to us on road trips. The lines I remember are:
"Well, I was goin downgrade doing ninety mile an hour, when the chain on my bicycle broke. I was skinned all over by the rocks and the gravel and punctured to death by the spokes. Now I ain't a-lyin, I'm just layin here a-dyin with these handle bars stuck down my throat."

I was goin' round the mountain makin' 90 miles an hour
When the chain on my bicycle broke
I was skinned all over by the rocks and the gravel
And was punctured to death by the spokes

VERSE 1
Now you've heard of accidents on boats, motor cars and airplanes
But the accident I had would take the cake
When my foot slipped off the pedal and my shoe caught in the chain
So therefore I couldn't even hit the brakes

Repeat Chorus

VERSE 2
Now I ain't kiddin, I ain't lyin', I'm just a-layin here dyin'
'Cause these handlebars are stickin' down my throat
I got the front wheel for a necktie and the back wheel for a belt
And I'm wearin' the fender for a coat

Repeat Chorus

My Mother always sang:

Flying around the corner going 90
When the chain on her motorcycle broke
she went sliding on the grass
with a muffler up her ass
and her titsies
playing dixie
on the spokes.

Then again, my Mother and her siblings used to sing worse ones in the 50's, like:

There was an old lady from Spain
Who threw her leg over the train
she laid on her back
and opened her crack
and let the cowboys play
one day she got a surprise
her belly began to rise
and out popped a nigger
with a funny little figger
and his ass between his eyes!

No idea what that means.

Yes, Max Miller it was, and many thanks to Martin Edmonds for the fragment he posted on 5 March 08- the song as I posted it is too short, and I've always thought there should be more. Time for some detective work, I think.

The song had a recent airing when, wielding an electric ukulele, I delighted a crowd of less than several on Saturday night during an outing with the phenomenally ignored 'Trembling Wheelbarrows'. I have always found vulgarity to be a useful substitute for talent.

From: RTim

Then there is the Pink Floyd song From Album: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Bike
(Barrett) 3:22

I've got a bike, you can ride it if you like.
It's got a basket, a bell that rings
And things to make it look good.
I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things.

I've got a cloak it's a bit of a joke.
There's a tear up the front. It's red and black.
I've had it for months.
If you think it could look good, then I guess it should.

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things.

I know a mouse, and he hasn't got a house.
I don't know why I call him Gerald.
He's getting rather old, but he's a good mouse.

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things.

I've got a clan of gingerbread men.
Here a man, there a man, lots of gingerbread men.
Take a couple if you wish. They're on the dish.

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things.

I know a room full of musical tunes.
Some rhyme, some ching, most of them are clockwork.
Let's go into the other room and make them work.

Tim Radford

"Going down the highway 90 miles an hour,

Coming a little late to this thread I see my own unasked question was wonderfully and completely answered by one 'Rusty Dobro' back in August 2006! Whilst working for the illustrious firm of J.Murphy, Cable Contractors of Store Street, London back in 1973, one of my navvy colleagues, an Irish fellow rejoicing under the name of 'Tip' Delaney would suddenly, and for no imaginable reason save for the joy of being alive, break into the song "When I was a lad I was bicycle mad, I would ride between motorcars, and make no mistake I would put on the brake, without touching the handlebars". I urged him to sing more but that was all he could remember. I never discovered the rest of the lyrics, not, that is until now. What a resource this is!

Subject: Lyr Add: À BICYCLETTE (André Bourvil, 1947)
From: Mrrzy
Date: 15 Mar 09 - 07:02 PM

OK, it's Bourvil:

Je m'en allais chercher des oies
Du côté de Fouilly les oies,
A bicyclette.
Soudain, qui vois-je devant moi ?
Un' belle fille au frais minois
A bicyclette.
En arrivant à sa hauteur,
J'y fais un sourire enchanteur,
A bicyclette.
Ell' rit aussi,
On parle alors
Et ell' me dit dans nos transports,
A bicyclette :
"Est-c' que vous et's coureur ?
- Non j'ne suis pas coureur.
- Ah ! c'que vous et's menteur !
- Moi, je suis balayeur.
- Avez-vous fait le tour ?
- Tour de France,
Non mais j'ai fait des tours,
Des détours des contours
Et même d'autres tours...
"Des tours de quoi ?", qu'em dit.
- Des tours d'vélo pardi !
- Vous êtes un blagueur.
Ah ! c'que vous et's coureur !

{Parlé:}
Vous parlez d'un raisonnement.
Pfé!

Dans les champs chantaient les grillons,
Le soleil dardait ses rayons
De bicyclette.
Ell' voulait que je chante un brin,
Mais à cela j'ai mis un frein
De bicyclette.
Près d'un tournant y avait un bois
Où l'on se dirigea, ma foi,
A bicyclette.
Mais comme ell' roulait près de moi
Voilà qu'em'fait presqu'a mi-voix,
A bicyclette.

- Ah ! c'que vous et's coureur!
- Moi... j'ne suis pas coureur.
- Ah ! c'que vous et's menteur !
- Moi, je suis balayeur.
- Vous savez fair' la cour !
- Oui, j'y réponds, car pour
Ce qui est de fair' la cour,
Je la fais chaque jour.
- La cour à qui ? qu'em' dit.
- La cour d'la ferm' pardi!
- Vous êtes un blagueur.
- Ah ! C'que vous et's coureur !

{Parlé:}
Vous parlez d'un raisonnement.
Y fallait pas qu'elle soit intelligente pour toujours dire ça. Enfin !

Dans l'bois, j'y disais "Voyez donc,
Sans boussole nous nous guidons"
De bicyclette.
Mais ell' répétait, pleine d'ardeur,
Que j'étais un coureur coureur
A bicyclette.
Je l'étais pas, ça c'est couru,
Mais alors, je le suis devenu
A bicyclette.
Et comme je courais vers le but
Voilà qu'em fait comm'au début,
A bicyclette

- Ah ! c'que vous et's coureur !
- Moi... j'ne suis pas coureur.
- Ah ! c'que vous et's menteur !
- Moi je suis balayeur.
J'y redis en courant,
Car j'continuais d'courir
Vers l'but à conquerir
(Vous êtes au courant)
Moi a forc' de courir,
Parcourir, discourir,
L'vélo s'est dégonflé
Et j'suis pas arrivé.

{Parlé:}
Moralité : Rien ne sert de courir.
Il faut partir à point...
Comme l'a si bien dit la F.... La F..... la tortue.

I heard a version of the above parodies about forty-five years ago, when I was doing long-distance bicycling; but I don't remember it. It was similar, and the "sprocket up the ass" stuck in my mind as an experience I would not like to have.

I added the title and attribution to the Guest post of the lyrics to "Bicycle Wreck." At http://www.cowboylyrics.com, the song is called "Bicycle Song." Other sources say the song was recorded by the Jacoby Brothers and by "Uncle Andy." I gather that the Jacoby Brothers and Uncle Andy recorded the song in the late 1950's, and I heard the parodies just a few years later.

The Harry Fox Agency has a song titled "Bicycle Wreck" attributed to Hoyt Axton - anybody have lyrics for that one?

The song I remember from my childhood went like this:

"I was ridin' down the road, doing 90 miles an hour,
when the chain on my bicycle broke.
I landed in the grass, with a sprocket up my ass,
And my dick playing dixie on the spokes.

she was going down the road
doing 90 miles an hour
when the chain on her bicycle broke
she slipped in the grass
the sprocket up her ass
and her boobs played dixie on the spokes.

I too have been searching for this song. I believe it is a Music Hall song and indeed that is the reason I am trying to find it.
The version I remember is the one quoted by Rusty Dobro Aug 2006. Only I have some more to add some more as incomplete as it is.
A farmer who has fathered many children is responding to a question by a neighbour
Now you've got all your kids
And I can't get one.
Won't you please tell to me,
Won't you say how it's done?
I gets up at six when I hear the alarm
And after I've milked all the cows on the farm.
I go for a ride on my bicycle
I get around on my bike...
....

The doctor demento show used to play this alot on Kmet 94.7 fm in los angeles once in a while. in the late seventies. I had lost the tapes I made when I was a kid to a girlfriend, I sang it for my father, he remembered it and he new some of the less tounge and cheek versions, cracked me up.

I for some reason always miss the lines "my foot slipped off the pedal and my toe caught in the chain".

It is kinda funny too because I remember goin down christy street once with my big toe caught in the chain on my sisters "big bike" when I had first learned to ride. good times, still have the scars.

Oh yeah, bottles of beer on the wall.

But how about --

I was cruising down the highway
Going ninety miles an hour
When the chain on my bicycle broke.
I was thrown in the ditch
While listening to Mitch
*[dates this to US, c. 1950s-60s -- "Sing Along with Mitch Miller]
With my teeth playing "Dixie" on the spokes.
