Hello all. Just want to let you know that I have deleted all the members with no email address. If anyone is unable to access personal areas or their profile, that is why. Please reregister. Email and Codenames are now required elements of membership. As before I will not let our membership database out of my hands. For the new features coming, it is essential for us to have email addresses. Also, if there were records with no codename I created one with initials. Sorry for the inconviniences.

New Features today include:

Email capability and new profile options. You may now go to your profile, http://www.mudcat.org/member/profile.cfm and choose whether you would like your email address public to other members as well as wether you would like to receive email updates from me. Also take the opportunity to make sure that all of your membership information is correct, especially your email address.

Email is simple enough. Those members that have chosen to allow their addresses to be public will appear on the dropdown list. The Link is on the Forum Page and your personal page. Type your message and wala. All emails sent and received are remembered until you choose to delete it. You can see the logs on your personal page. On your personal page, you can know you got an email and even read it without an email program. This acts like the personal messages but emails it too. I may reconfigure the whole messageing system to combine personal messages with email with an options switch. It may get confusion with 2 different systems.

Oh and the reason that I did not combine the email with the messageing system yet is because I feel it necessary to only let email addresses out by the person themselves. Private messages are automatically public, it is an interactive element of the site you have no choice about yet. If you don't want messages then don;t be a member. Email however is a more personal and private idea. Many may think messages are OK while emails are not. I don;t want to turn off a members messages just because he or she doesn't want emails.

Does that make sense? I'm getting tired.

A benefit of the email logs and our email system in general, is that if you are away from home and do not have an email client but do have a web browser (like in libraries) you can connect to the Mudcat to get email sent through our system. We cannot check your email server so only email sent through the Mudcat are relevant. But you can tell people to send mail to you through the mudcat if you are in need. If they are not members they can join. And when you get home, your email is in your email client and logged on the mudcat.

I'm not sure I completely understand how to have email addressed to me at Mudcat if I do not have an email client...(I DO...and it is listed...but for someone who doesn't...is it just a message? or do they need to format it some special way?) I have seen WEB based email, but this in not really the same...(I know it seems obvious to you, Max, but I can see people out there puzzling over this..)Perhaps a good nights rest before you try to compose another layer of explanation...thanks for all the goodies....

ah.....went from here to the chat room, and then came back and hit the dreaded 'reload' button...there ought to be a note somewhere saying NEVER use the reload button in Mudcat! You get double posts everytime..

Well, everything is alright with me, with that messages and e-mail stuff and messages everytime and public, and e-mail private and maybe public, .... but what for e-mail at all? I found that send-message-option to be very handy, everybody was reachable. Or is there an important reason for it I can´t realize at the moment ?
Let me know, greetings, Carl

Max-- I echo the sentiments of speed 1: I'm proud to be at this site, and I am much obliged for the trouble to which you have gone and the time which you have spent in developing and improving the mudcat. I have deleted and renewed all bookmarks, as you requested, and I'm looking forward to the time when I can enter the chat room.

The e-mail and private message options are nice for off-the-subject communications, but I kind of think it's best to keep our discussions of musical matters out in the open. The dynamic of this open forum is wonderful. I think it's nice, within reason, to get off the subject in the forum occasionally - it helps us to get to know each other.

I aqgree Joe, but I got requests for emails and thought I'd give it a go. As far as freedom goes, it is nice to have options, and now we do... a lot of them.
