Subject: RE: Help: Celtic Instruments! From: GUEST,ChrisE Date: 13 Jan 01 - 07:42 AM Thank you very much for the link! It helps me a bit.... I'm looking exactly for these instruments of this site, but I need more historical informations about them. The trouble is that I need these informations very soon. The project is a Multemedia-project "The Sound of Ireland". I also wanna put in the history of the instruments to show that there are not really any Irish instruments in the roots of the irish music. Thank you Chris |

Subject: RE: Help: Celtic Instruments! From: Noreen Date: 13 Jan 01 - 09:29 AM There have been threads discussing the history of many of the relevant instruments. If you do a 'Forum Search' (in the drop-down menu under 'Quick Links' above) for each instrument, you'll get plenty to be going on with. But beaing in mind your time is limited, here's one that I remember, to be going on with: Origins of the Banjo You are asking for quite a lot in a short time- it's a big topic! Noreen |

Subject: RE: Help: Celtic Instruments! From: Jeri Date: 13 Jan 01 - 09:34 AM This site is about the "ancient music of Ireland." Ancient, as 17th and 18th centuries. (This is a very nice site and I was delayed playing some very nicely done MIDIs.) I think you may find ancient Celts had harps and bagpipes, although the instruments have undoubtedly changed much since then. There was also the carnyx. There's a CD of Carnyx music available at that site - might be good for a multimedia project. Disclaimer: I'm far from an expert in this field, and most of what I know (or think I know), I've learned from reading other discussions. |

Subject: RE: Help: Celtic Instruments! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 13 Jan 01 - 11:25 PM Look, once I laid a ruler on the map of Europe from Bulgaria to Ireland, and it's only about 700 miles from one end to the other. What with trade, emigration, conquests and the invention of printing, it doesn't take long for a good idea to move around. This includes instruments.
