Subject: SONGCATCHER From: Dharmabum Date: 15 Feb 01 - 10:45 AM SONGCATCHER.Anyone seen or heard about this movie? I caught the previews for it on a rented video the other day. About a woman who travels to the Appalacian mountains in the 30s ? to record their music. Written by Maggie Greenwald, it's got Iris Dement & Taj Mahal in it. From what I gather,it made it's debut at the Sundance Film Festival 2000. I can't find much more about it.Anyone have any info on its release to theatres or video.Or possibly a soundtrack? Thanks Ron.

Subject: RE: BS: SONGCATCHER From: Arkie Date: 16 Feb 01 - 12:21 AM The credits also list Don Pedi, a fantastic mountain dulcimer player who plays fiddle tunes up to speed and has a right hand that gets the rhythm of the fiddle bow, and Sheila Adams a wonderful ballad singer and story teller from the mountains of North Carolina. Would be worth the price of admission seeing them on the big screen. Does anyone know if this film is based in any way on Dorothy Scarborough's book "Songcatcher in the Southern Mountains"? |

Subject: RE: BS: SONGCATCHER From: Dharmabum Date: 16 Feb 01 - 07:40 AM I haven't seen anything in the reviews about it being based on a book. They give writing credit to Maggie Greenwald.(tho i could be wrong) The previews look pretty enticing,at least for the musical content. Looks like it won't be released until this summer though. Subject: RE: BS: SONGCATCHER From: Art Thieme Date: 16 Feb 01 - 09:16 PM There was a woman----can't recollect her name-----but she went by the nom de plume of "The Traipsin' Woman". She had something to do with an early mountain festival that featured the musical mountaineers she met in her traveling. I remember George Armstrong talking about her ... Art Thieme |

Subject: RE: BS: SONGCATCHER From: catspaw49 Date: 30 Aug 01 - 03:08 PM Because I don't know which of the 10 threads someone may be tracing, I'm posting this on ALL of the "Songcatcher" threads. Our good member annamil has a video store and I asked her to check on the " of the movie being available on videotape and as she always does, came through for us. Here is what she posted: ********************************************************** I just called my dealer and he says it will be out Oct 23rd and I will pre-book it Oct 1st. You won't be able to buy it for awhile, but you will be able to rent it. I didn't know about this movie til I read this thread and I only read this thread because someone mentioned it in another thread. I can't wait to see it and more importantly, I can't wait to HEAR it. I'm not sure how many I should order for the store as this is the first I've heard of it. From what I heard and read here, it may be worth 10 threads ;-) Love, Annamill ********************************************************** So go bug your local videostore and tell them you want to rent "Songcatcher." And when you do.........Don't start another freakin' thread huh? Spaw |
