The Right Honorable Captain Sir Edward Roger Toes, late of Her Majesty's navel (not a misspelling) forces, departed this plane about 2:00 pm today, with the assistance of the surgeon who had presided at the last two of the three successive removals of the massive tumor on his back, which we had been fighting with for the last 3+ years.

He was a sturdily built ex-tom with classic tuxedo coloration and the largest white feet yet seen on a feline who was not a snow leopard. He had a unique combination of perfect dignity and a love of play, that should have been mutually contradictory - but some cats can bring it off.

He will be greatly missed. But watching him be gradually crippled would have been worse.

Give your cats some pieces of leftover chicken tonight in his honor.

Peter.

Good God! Mercury *is* in retrograde this week--at least for cats. Someone's got it in for the feline race, and I want to find out who it is and smack them around a bit. This is just too damn much. :PPP

My sympathies :(

Moll

Peter,

Ain't life a bitch at times?

I'll spare a thought for your loss while weeping over my own.

Scott

Oh great, now you have me wondering if HRH Thumper will still be alive when I get home...

Buddycat the Mighty Hunter went to Kitty Heaven three years ago this July, on account of a heart attack/stroke that would have left his back legs paralyzed. When we got home from the vet that evening we found that our budgie Cactus had decided to go with Buddy. Very strange. So we buried two little friends in the pet cemetery.

As I told Scott, pets are special and it's hard to see them go. Some people don't understand this... they can kiss my tattooed white behind.

I think the Right Honorable Captain and Buddycat will be fine friends.

Luv---- Kim

I'm so sorry, Midchuck. We knew Feb. was a bitch for us 2 legs, it seems it is also for the 4 legs. My condolences to you and yours.

My 2 legs kids had another crisis this week--a 19 yr old friend hung himself and services were today. One of my "Other Boys" was a pall bearer, and Kate and Luke aren't holding up too well this evening. I didn't know the young man, and have done all I can do for the kids, so they are out with friends, "Waking Randy". What a life, sometimes.

I am so sorry MC....he sounds like a fine fellow and I am sure he is having the best time somewhere, up to his rear-end in fish, wool and girl cats.

How does that song go: There's a new star in heaven tonight? It's easy to believe that for our animal friends !

Your Captain knows the valiant fight you put up together. What do you want to bet he sends you another friend to fill the void?

I posted the message at the top of this thread to another list, and got, among others, this reply:

May the Lady bear him in her arms to a place where the birds always fly-- a little too low.

Peter.

Again, read the Rainbow Bridge ('Spaw, where are ye with a clicky when i need one?) You did the right thing...your dignified friend didn't understand the pain, and would hate the crippling. On the other side, he is joyful, running (after felas, no doubt) playing, and awaiting your arrival. All my best to you

Scott and Midchuck,

I am sorry about Cleo and Roger Toes. You will probably still feel their presense for a long time. I lost my cat Rosie ten years ago and every night when I get home I'll put the key in the door and can feel her at my feet trying to get into the house before me.

Even when you know it's the right thing to do, it still isn't easy. He doesn't hurt anymore. Your decision was an act of friendship and courage.
