Maybe you need to hear a lovesong today.

Or maybe you need to pass one on to a friend.

Here is an all-purpose one you can enjoy for yourself, forward as needed, or dedicate to any one you love, right here at the Mudcat.

I'M GONNA SING ME A LOVE SONG words and music by Pete Seeger

I'm gonna sing me a love song
Just in case you might be passing by.
I'm gonna sing me a love song
Just in hopes you might be passing by.
[yodel]
And if you're not too busy,
Perhaps I might catch you on the fly.

Come along with me, down by the spring.
Come along with me, down by the spring,
To see the waters gliding, hear the nightingale sing.

What I got to say's so personal, can't say it to no one but you.
What I got to say's so personal, can't say it to no one but you.
It's just, "Mm, mm, mm," and "ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh."

Now my song is ended, but the melody lingers on.
Now my song is ended, but the melody lingers on,
Should I ever leave you, remember till I return.

I get the impression this is one of those, "you just had to be there" type things. My hope is that the tune is what makes this song a good one. I think these lyrics aren't much better than Rod Stewart's "Wake Up, Maggie".

My apologies to Pete; but I have seen far more romantic lyrics.

Well, Allan, I just looked at the thread with your name on it. You seem to be held in high regard around here. So on behalf of Mudcat in general, I dedicate the song to YOU.

Since we don't know each other, this part:

What I got to say's so personal, can't say it to no one but you.
What I got to say's so personal, can't say it to no one but you.
It's just, "Mm, mm, mm," and "ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh."

There. Now you can have "been there"!

Allan C
Rod Stewart's Maggie is amazing. I don't know whether you're interested, but Blur did a cover of it years ago and it had an almost Phil Spector 'wall of sound feel'. You might not like it at all, but you WOULD find it interesting to hear how they do it. The boy Damon doesn't sing it very well, though.

I see that I have had a song lobbed at me. I'm passing it on to all of the Mudcatters and other people in Canada who made me feel so warm and welcome while I was there.

I'm gonna sing me a glove song
Keep my fingers warm and dry.
I'm gonna sing me a glove song
Just in case I come back some day.
[yodel]
And if I see you in the winter,
Perhaps we'll have a laugh or two.

Come along with me, down by the lake.
Come along with me, down by the lake,
To see the waters freezing, hear the snowmobiles zing.

What I got to say's not personal, but I'm saying it just to you,
What I got to say's not personal, hope you visit me one day, too.
Cause it's so much fun, and you'll never want to go.

Now my song is ended, but the melody lingers on.
Now my song is blended with yours and the laughter goes on,
Now that I have left you, remember till I return.

Carol
