Subject: Auction Closing Rules From: gnu Date: 06 Mar 01 - 03:08 PM When the auction has one day left, when does it end ? that day or the next day ? When it is the last day, when does it end ? midnight ? I sure hope it's not midnight because that's 0100AST where I am, and I go by the old adage, "Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man wonder who won the game." gnu |

Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: katlaughing Date: 06 Mar 01 - 03:54 PM I believe it IS midnight, gnu...sorry:-) |

Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: gnu Date: 06 Mar 01 - 04:11 PM Okay, I got two belives on the hour of closing and zero on the day of closing. Any more bids ? You in the back with the sly grin, you know don't you ? Your going to outbid me at the last minute, knowing that I haven't got the stamina to stay up that late, eh ? Well, I'll show you? I'm going to.......sleep....ahhhhh.... |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: SINSULL Date: 06 Mar 01 - 04:40 PM Actually gnu, we do need some sort of plan on who notifies whom, how payment is handled, notification of shipment. There is some confusion. |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: Sarah2 Date: 06 Mar 01 - 04:44 PM So, what are you bidding on, gnu? -- she asked slyly... Sarah |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: gnu Date: 06 Mar 01 - 04:51 PM I like confusion. It's part of my day. Some days, it's all day. As for the hour, it IS the www, so I hope I didn't seem selfish when I weened about staying up until Zero One Dark Hundred Hours. Anyway, I'd just like to know the rules. I asked Max, but he was uncertain as well. Who's Captain of this ship ? We should ask her to set the standing orders AHEC. gnu |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: Bert Date: 06 Mar 01 - 05:05 PM Hey gnu, why don't you just put in a huge bid and maybe, even if the auction is officially over it might be too tempting to refuse. |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: gnu Date: 06 Mar 01 - 05:08 PM Sarah2....Well, seeing as how I'm down about too many thousands so far in this first of the next thousand years, probably nothing, unless I can stay up all night and squeak by, although I don't hold out much hope for that. With my luck, I'll have another day like today - I awoke to the gentle tweet, tweet, tweet of the garbage collection truck's brakes at 0316h and couldn't stop thinking about work. Had two pots of tea gone before bfast. Tonight's an early night.... DRAT !!! I have to stay up tonight. Tradition, you know. This is Gnu 'Eve. The beast is 44 years old tomorrow. Not quite as wild as years gone by, but still a gnu. Can't break tradition ! g |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: gnu Date: 06 Mar 01 - 05:15 PM I just looked at the auction and I see that time is shown for one of the items as closing "tonight". But we still don't know the time....eh ? Sarah2 ? gnu |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: gnu Date: 06 Mar 01 - 05:52 PM bert... I am not understanding. If I put in a winning bid before it's over, I win. If I put in a winning bid after it's over, I lose. I have dealt with tenders for years and the last thing I would do is try to buy something after the tender had closed. It's not only wrong, wit' the girls I goes wit', you could lose your youknows, an' I needs me unos. |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: Bert Date: 06 Mar 01 - 05:56 PM I was just being silly. |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: gnu Date: 06 Mar 01 - 06:02 PM Of all the people who would know that, it is I. I'm about as silly as they come. I was just being silly also. It's the American beer talking...well, it's an American name, brewed in Canada, so, by law of the marketplace, it must have at least an eqivalent amount of spirit. Birthdays can be troublesome, if you let them. gnuuuuu |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: Sorcha Date: 06 Mar 01 - 06:10 PM gnu, I just checked the auction, and did not see a bid from you on the item that is ending tonight? Since the auction is "dated" through Mudcat, I am willing to bet the auction ends at Midnight, Mudcat time, which is Eastern Time, USA. When Mudcat's clock clicks to Midnight, I'll bet the auction automatically closes. |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: wdyat12 Date: 06 Mar 01 - 06:15 PM gnu, Happy Birthday! You spring chicken you. I was also wondering about the magic hour of midnite being the cutoff point fot bids since I am bidding on three items in the auction. Is midnight here in EST the cutoff or midnight in the UK? or Australia? or India? Max please let us know. gnu, the best years of your life you haven't even lived yet. wdyat12 |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: gnu Date: 06 Mar 01 - 06:21 PM Okay, I got two belives and one bet from Sorcha on the hour of closing. Any more bids ? You in the back with the sly grin, you know, don't you ? Your going to outbid me at the last minute, knowing that I haven't got the stamina to stay up that late, eh ? Well, I'll show you. I'm going to.......sleep....ahhhhh....not !!!!! Although, in the interest of fair play and gentlemanship, I will say that I am not bidding tonight. gnuzzzzz... huh ? I'm awake. |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: Sorcha Date: 06 Mar 01 - 06:25 PM See ya, and raise you one. Mudcat is based in Pennsylvania, US, so Midnight means EST (or EDT as the case may soon be.......)And by the way, Max is not only Captain of the Ship, He is the Emperor of the World. |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: gnu Date: 06 Mar 01 - 06:29 PM wdyat12... Re the best years of my life haven't been lived yet... how did you know I have screwed it up so far ? Am I that transparent ? gnu |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: Sorcha Date: 06 Mar 01 - 06:29 PM (lived 'em for ya, gnu) Been there, done that. |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: gnu Date: 06 Mar 01 - 06:31 PM If he's the big Emp, why doesn't he know what hour his world changes days ? gnu |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: katlaughing Date: 06 Mar 01 - 06:31 PM I am surprised Max said he didn't know. I am sure it is MIDNIGHT MUDCAT TIME, which, as Sorcha said, is Eastern Daylight or Standard Time, whichever the hell one we are on according to the idiocy of the government, unless you live in Arizona, of course.:-)So...gnu, maybe get yerself a proxy bidder to stay up? And,

Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: wdyat12 Date: 06 Mar 01 - 06:34 PM gnu, You will see, you're still young enough to beleive. wdyat12 |

Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: Jon Freeman Date: 06 Mar 01 - 06:38 PM To quote from the add item to auction form: "*Note: Auction closes at midnight (EST) on the day you note." Jon |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: gnu Date: 06 Mar 01 - 06:38 PM Thanks kat. I guess we'll just have to assume it's midnight USEST/USEDST. Unless Max is bidding and he's really keen to use every trick in the book to up the ante. What sayest thou, Max ?
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: gnu Date: 06 Mar 01 - 06:46 PM Thank you Jon Freeman. The standing orders are understood by the crew of good ship Mudcat. All hands on deck. Prepare for battle ! God bless all who join the bloody fray. Don't bid 'til you see the greens of their wallets. gnu |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: wdyat12 Date: 06 Mar 01 - 06:50 PM I'll be your proxy bidder gnu. I promise I won't go over your weekly salary for each bid. I'm really aggressive when it come s to getting something at an auction, especially a Mudcat auction. Sleep tight, your in good hands gnu, wdyat12 |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: gnu Date: 06 Mar 01 - 07:06 PM No problem wdyat12. Just as long as we NB'er's get the same deal from you as we ( used to get ) get at Stacy's. See 'ya !! For Catters unfamiliar, Stacy's, a h/motel in Maine, used to take Canadian money at par. Exchange where I bought my Canadian American beer today is fifty-one percent. I could put in one of those wild bids at those rates ! |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: Sarah2 Date: 06 Mar 01 - 09:06 PM Awwwww, I was just trying to see if I could keep gnu up all (g)night gnawing on his fingergnails, worried about my slipping in a last-minute bid...it's that sadistic streak, but I'll let it slide, since it's your birthday. Many happy returns, gnu! May you get your Mudcat wish on the Auction site. Sarah |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: Jon Freeman Date: 06 Mar 01 - 09:28 PM gnu thinks he has problems: it is already 2:28 am here... now shall I stay up till 5am to make a sneaky bid? ;-) Jon |
Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: Sarah2 Date: 06 Mar 01 - 09:36 PM Jon, Cold, very cold: Poor child won't sleep at all now, hovering over the Auction! With friends like us, etc. Sarah |

Subject: RE: Help: Auction Closing Rules From: catspaw49 Date: 07 Mar 01 - 10:23 AM True enough since Indiana has enough idiocies already. Spaw |
