As we see the increasing inclusion of storytelling here at the Mudcat, I'd like to suggest a way we could post them that would make them easier to find. Since we do not have a prefix for "Story Add," how about if we put that in the subject line of the posts that have these? Then we could find them by search.

Just a thought. It was seeing MMario run all over the place posting links to Auxiris' stories that got me thinking.

This way we could let the story trend continue to develop and see where it goes before making any other big changes like adding prefixes for the story side of the Cat.

It would make them easier for Aine (or someone helping her) to find too.

A word about this might be added to the FAQ material about creating threads, as well.

Excellent idea. This may encourage other people to post stories, too. Let me be the first to use this suggestion, as it's a rainy day over here in France, just right for a story. . . .

cheers,

Aux

Hi Aux.

There may be other ways to get at the need I spotted-- however we solve it, I just want to be able to find these wonderful contributions.

The prefixes are handy, but they aren't necessary. All you need to do is figure out a standard designation that you want to use, and then encourage people to use it consistently. Once you decide on a designator, let me know what it is. If somebody starts a story without the designator, I can rename the thread for you and add the designator. "STORY" might be a good designator, for instance. I'd appreciate if you don't use ADD, because that's the designator I search for when harvesting lyrics for the database.
We do add certain "traditional" recitations to the database, but generally those that are well-known and relatively brief. You'll find a few Robert W. Service poems in the database, for instance.
Thanks.

Joe,

That's helpful, Joe.

I suppose in this instance that the Mudcat storybook becomes the counterpart to the DT, with Aine harvesting, so perhaps you and she might work out what will be best. I can foresee though that people may want to be able to indicate that they are requesting or adding a story. Auxiris is becoming known as a repository of a certain genre of stories, for instance, and I can foresee someone asking for a translation of one they have heard about.

It's hard to see, this early, what the impact of storytelling will be on the Mudcat. It would be my hope that everyone with an interest in stories would watch and contribute to this thread so we can consider as many approaches as possible.

Feel free to change my thread title if that will help you harvest songs-- I just created one today as a STORY ADD.
