This song originates Scotland/NE England Corrie Doon being the start of the chorus. This song has been gnawing at me for weeks so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks GB

I have heard it credited to Matt McGinn. Not trad but it has that feel anyway.

Matt wrote many superb songs - I am learning Dundee Ghost right now.I think there is some doubt about this one though.

The DT says Copyright Matt McGinn. This does not necessarily mean he wrote it.The guitar chords above the lyrics are probably his(and copyrighted). The song is however described as "from the singing of Kathy Forrest of Syracuse" which leads me to conclude that this lady was already singing the song or something very similar. Otherwise she would not have been acknowledged. GB

When we know who wrote a song, we assume that person holds the copyright until we find out that some other (publisher, etc) holds it. I noted that I first heard it from Kathy, which does not imply authorship.

Hi Geordie, I have not heard of the song ' The Dundee Ghost ' but I have got Matt's autobiography which has got most of his songs in it, so I will have a look. Cheers, Dave
