If I didn't have to earn a living, I'd move there in a minute. But what is a chreashie Pie? Even Glasgow born Heather has never heard of it. She DID tell me about deep fried Mars bars though....Holy Coronary! Rick |

Subject: RE: BS: visitscotland? From: Murray MacLeod Date: 08 Apr 01 - 02:16 PM "Chreashie" may be a phonetic attempt at "greasy". But what is a sweatshop call centre? I don't remember ever being in one of those ....... Murray |

Subject: RE: BS: visitscotland? From: GUEST,Kilty Date: 09 Apr 01 - 08:24 AM What's on Easter week in Scotland?? Or even Ireland or Wales? I've seen info here on English fests & workshop, but not elsewhere in these islands. I understand the PanCeltic fest, Tralee, Ireland, to which many Scots go, is cancelled. |

Subject: RE: BS: visitscotland? From: kendall Date: 09 Apr 01 - 08:27 AM There is a special person in Texas, Aine, but no special places. |

Subject: RE: BS: visitscotland? From: GUEST,Matt_R Date: 09 Apr 01 - 08:37 AM I suppose the Alamo isn't important? I suppose the 4-Corners region containing ancient Native American pictographs from thousands of years ago isn't important? I suppose that Brownsville and the coast along the Gulf of Mexico that was the refuge for many Irish immigrants isn't important? You sound just like the young people you love to hate. You make sweeping generalizations and don't give a rat's ass about anything that doesn't directly apply to you. |

Subject: RE: BS: visitscotland? From: Maryrrf Date: 09 Apr 01 - 09:24 AM Well, I'm going to the traditional music festival in Girvan, which is May 4, 5 and 6. Looking forward to those fried Mars bars - never heard of it but sounds interesting. |

Subject: RE: BS: visitscotland? From: Willie-O Date: 09 Apr 01 - 11:05 AM In Texas? Any state with the Kerrville Folk Fest in it can't be all bad. I found Texas like a visit to Mars, but I enjoyed the hell out of it, except for the fire ants. Matt, relax. What's special is personal. It has nought to do with "important". Willie-O As for Scotland, I sure would like to go. |

Subject: RE: BS: visitscotland? From: Murray MacLeod Date: 09 Apr 01 - 12:23 PM This is total thread creep, but since Matt has mentioned Brownsville, can somebody tell me whether Brownsville or Key West is the most southerly point of the contiguous USA On my maps they look to be on the same latitude. Subject: RE: BS: visitscotland? From: kendall Date: 09 Apr 01 - 01:03 PM Matt, I should have added, In my opinion. Do you know what really happened at the Alamo? it wasn't like a John Wayne movie. A bunch of foreign invaders went to Mexico, were not satisfied with the way it was governed, and basically declared war. Santa Anna had no choice but to put down this rebellion. Sam Huston did not want war with Mexico, and, he ordered Travis out of the area. He told him NOT to make a stand at the Alamo. He disobeyed orders and got almost 200 men killed. I have been to Texas, and I have been to Scotland. Have you? All I am saying is, I love Scotland, I dont love Texas. You have no right to argue with my opinion. You do have a right to have a different one. Peg gave you good advice. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: visitscotland? From: Murray MacLeod Date: 09 Apr 01 - 02:09 PM Now, kendall, would that Sam Huston be related to Sam Houston, or would he be an ancestor of John Huston, the movie director ? (Sorry, I can't help it ..... Murray |

Subject: RE: BS: visitscotland? From: GUEST,The Celtic Bard Date: 09 Apr 01 - 02:40 PM I don't know how everyone got on the subject of Texas (personally, I've never been there). However I would like to go to Scotland because I have roots there. My father's side of the family is from the western part of northern Scotland, above Loch Ness near a little place called Fearn Abbey (yes, it is spelled with the "a" in the middle). Plus the family got its last name from the place. My mother's side is from the eastern coast of northern Scotland and we have a castle up there called Grant Castle (nothing more than ruins I've been told). Someday, someday. Rebecca <>< |

Subject: RE: BS: visitscotland? From: Peg Date: 10 Apr 01 - 12:02 AM Micca old sod! How are you? Say hi to Aud for me. I have been a bad girl, and have not sent you your CD yet; can you resend me your mailing addy via PM? Yes, it looks like I shall be hopping the puddle again. Ideally, I would like to come for solstice, hit the Rollrights and Avebury and maybe Glastonbury, and stay through the ASLaN sacred sites conference July 7-8, but that may be a bit too long...also I am teaching through June 26 officially (though may knock off early) and my annual pagan gathering/camping trip should start July 5 stateside...so I have some head-scratching to do to figure out the dates. Jock Morris has kindly offered to show me a bit of Scotland so that will probably happen sometime before the conference (which is scheduled to be in Yorkshire). Much of this hinges on whether the countryside and sacred sites will be accessible, what with the H&M crisis... In any case I should love to down a pint or two in London with you and yours; any PF stuff or other events happening in that time frame? Peg
