I got burgled last year, and it was very annoying, but today I got burgled AGAIN - about an hour ago in fact - (nothing taken, but they smashed in through a window). Bloody bad timing. I'm off to Utah for a conference-thing and have a plane to catch at 8pm, and have to wait for fingerprinters and a glazier and have to finish my conference presentation stuff. Arse!!! Needless to say I am somewhat stressed. Could someone please create a little more time for me in which to get things done? (Of course, I realise contributing to Mudcat in this way is time-consuming, but it makes me feel better.)

Well - I read that as Stress and Buggery - which seems a pretty handy expletive to me!
Sorry to hear about the burglary - some people are swines aren't they? Still, look on the bright side - its taking your mind off of any worries about the presentation!
Have a nice conference-thing.

Kris

Bummer! Last time we were burgled, like you, nothing taken but damage done to a window, it took hours for the SOCO lady to come and mess the place up with powder. It's a horrible experience, I know Herself didn't like arriving home first for ages. Fortunately, on the 4 occasions we've been burgled in two different locations I was the first one home. That last time we felt insulted we had nothing of value to the perp.! I hope you've got good neighbours to keep an eye out while you're away.

Aye, it's all going wrong at once!
Oh well, cheers guys, I'll be on Mudcat again when I get a chance (probably about 2 weeks time, the way things are going).
Hmph, buggery's too good for 'em!

Sorry to hear about your burglary - its a real pain. Its a shame you couldn't send all the negative feeling to the person who had caused them. Enjoy the conference and buy a dog!

If your living situation allows pets, dogs are very, very good, even if they're perfectly friendly. A bad guy casing the neighborhood will avoid you on principle. Hope you didn't lose anything too precious.

You dont need to get a dog, just tie a large piece of rope to the railing, put a big dog dish where it can be seen, maybe even a half of a big bone with it, and put a Beware of Dog sign in the window.

I hope you recorded the serial numbers of all your valuables? A few years ago, I got ripped off like that, but, everything of value was recorded by serial number. The bastard was caught, and, did 5 to 7 in state prison. Got my stuff back too!

Well I'm waiting for some important email to arrive. It will probably take about half an hour. So if that half hour is of any use to you, you're welcome to it.

Bert.

FM - so sorry! If it's any consolation, burglaries are so frequent in NYC and so low on the police priority list that they no longer come to your home to assess the damage unless you claim a loss of $50,000 plus. You're supposed to go to the local station to file a claim and that is so you can get your insurance company to pay. My neighbor, an anaesthesiologist (SP?) told them that if they didn't come to her home to help her fill out the forms, she would refuse to answer the next call to help out an injured officer. They came.

OH, FM, sorry to hear about this happening, again! It feels such a violation of personal space, doesn't it?

I don't know about over there, but here we can get an alarm system installed for around $100. Rings right into the cop shop. Funny though, since we moved to the supposedly wrong side of the tracks, I've felt safer and less likely to be burgled than I did in a yuppie subdivision!

You know Utah is only a few hours drive from Casper, where I am, right? And, Sorcha could be, right? Any chance of you getting some time in those two weeks to run up? Only about 10 hours, I think, or maybe we could meet part-way? I know it's probably a long shot, but had to mention it, at least.:-)

Have fun at your conference and may the rest of your day go smoothly with lots of time for deep breaths and a quiet cup of something calming.

kat
