Subject: moved from: The Ballad of Pancho and Lefty From: Barry Finn Date: 04 Sep 98 - 10:29 PM During a seige in Mexico City 7 youths held out in a tower of sorts, defending, I'm not sure what. When they saw all was lost they wrapped themselves up in their flags & hurled themselves from the tower, The tower or whatever it is, is a national monument & the 7 angels are looked upon as heroic martyrs for Mexico. After all that I have no idea if ithis is connected to the song, just like the song. Barry |

Subject: Lyr Add: SEVEN SPANISH ANGELS^^ From: Dan Calder Date: 05 Nov 98 - 08:35 PM SEVEN SPANISH ANGELS Words and music by Eddie Setser and Troy Seals 1: He looked down into her blue eyes and said, "Say a prayer for me." She threw her arms around him, whispered "God will keep us free." They could hear the riders comin'. He said, "This is my last fight. If they take me back to Texas, they won't take me back alive." CHORUS: There were seven Spanish angels at the altar of the sun. They were prayin' for the lovers in the valley of the gun. When the battle stopped and the smoke cleared, there was thunder from the throne, And seven Spanish angels took another angel home. 2: She reached down and picked the gun up that lay smokin' in his hand. She said, "Father, please forgive me. I can't make it without my man." And she knew the gun was empty, and she knew she couldn't win, But her final prayer was answered when the rifles fired again. CHORUS |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seven Spanish Angles From: Oversoul Date: 03 Jun 01 - 12:17 AM Is this a variant of "Seven Yellow Gypsies?". Hey, Lloyd? Angles? Or Angels? Geometry is too cool, and musical,...verify. OK? |

Subject: Info Req: Seven Spanish Angels From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Jun 01 - 12:57 AM Actually, Lloyd's question is far more legitimate than his spelling. I have no idea what the song means. Sorcha gave a link to the lyrics - but does anybody have any idea what they mean? I sure like the song, especially Willie Nelson's recording. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seven Spanish Angles From: Banjer Date: 03 Jun 01 - 05:48 AM Los obtuse, los acute, y los right....only three I can think of, anybody know the other four Spanish angles? As for the song, Joe is right, Willie did a beautiful rendition of it. Was it Ray Charles that did it with him? Or is my addled mind mixed up again? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seven Spanish Angles From: Big Mick Date: 03 Jun 01 - 11:10 AM Yeah, it was indeed Ray Charles. They did it on the album called "Half Nelson" in which Willie partnered on every cut with someone else. This also produced "Pancho and Lefty" with Waylon. The album/CD is a pretty good piece of work with a couple of notable exceptions. The title is a play on words using a wrestling metaphor. Mick |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seven Spanish Angles From: Stevangelist Date: 04 Jun 01 - 02:15 PM Fine song... but, by way of loving correction, Pancho and Lefty was recorded by Willie and Merle Haggard, not Waylon Jennings. May The Road Rise To Meet You, Stevangelist
