I'm looking for CD's by three Canadian musicians: Madame Balduc, Isadore Soucy, and Smiling Ivan Dory. I've searched all over the web and can't find anything. I know that Philo had albums out by the first two, but they've discontinued most of their traditional stuff. Can anyone help? I'd really appreciate places that do mail-order, since Canada isn't a reasonable driving distance from New Jersey. Thanks.

This site is a mail order company specializing in French Canadian traditional music.

As well as, Thirty Below, there is Borealis Records, which features the music of Canadian Artists such as 'catter Rick Fielding, Tom Lewis, Grit Laskin, and many others.

Oooh! Thanks for that, DaveJ. I've been trying to find Nancy White's stuff! Unfortunately the Borealis Records site doesn't list the CD I want. Does she have her own website? I'd much rather get the CD directly from her than through Amazon, if possible.

Kind of off topic, but this might be a good thread in which to point people to the Virtual Gramaphone, a neato resource full of digitized files of early Canadian recordings. It's indexed by artist and label, but not, unfortunately, by genre. Still, an interesting site.

Bardford - Thanks, the virtual gramaphone site is great. No Canadian folk music, but some interesting turn of the century sentimental tunes, which I'm also interested in. this is a highly recommended site.

For Madame Bolduc, you may want to search again after checking the spelling. Good luck.

I'd have suggested starting with Thirty Below, but that's been done already.

The Canadian Society for Traditional Music has a Mail Order Service which leans toward things which don't otherwise have national distribution (although we have some of Borealis, Festival, etc., as well). Easiest way to access it is to go to the main website, www.yorku.ca/cstm, and follow the links from there.
