I was just wondering if anyone was at the Keith Festival (in scotland!) this year (june 2001). I was there and i was just wondering what everyone else thought of the festival!

There is a thread about it. I was there, Shona, on the Saturday afternoon and Sunday. I loved the music and the atmosphere.
Cheers, Bron.

Ah, Keith. I did a gig at the Ganowood House 11 years ago. Had a great time.

Hi Shona

This year was my seventh! I love going to Keith. Where were you? Did you go to any of the concerts or singarounds? Or competitions? I help out with the running around so I got to see quite a lot of it this year.

Jock Morris was there as well and I believe there were a few incognito Catters too.

I wondered if it was you! I was joint third in the women's singing. I said it to you and I'll say it here - your voice is wonderful and I really hope I hear more of it. I think I am going to Muchty too so maybe I will hear you there.

Keith was brilliant.

Made it to Killin for the Sunday afternoon and evening; good fun.

Should make it to Muchty; probably be in the Cycle Tavern.

Scott

I haven't been to many festivals except Keith and Muchty to be honest - it gets a bit expensive!

Anyway, have a look at these websites, they have loads of information about festivals:

Click here for the TMSA website.

Will you be going into the competitions at Muchty?

i hope to enter some competitions at muchty. is there a lot? i dont really know very much about it. i do singing, poetry, diddling, fiddle, piano and tin whistle.is there competitions for them?! Yeah, my mum and dad dont really want to take me to all the festivals because its so expensive, but they said i could go to a few. Do you know any good songs that you think would suit my voice? i dont have a teacher or anything so all the songs i do are ones that my mum or my granny knows! just a few suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you for the we sites as well, they are great!

Hello again Shona

Click here for the competitions page of the Auchtermuchty Festival website - it looks like you're in luck!

As for suggestions for songs, that's a hard one. It's great that your Mum and Granny can teach you songs, I think that's a good way to learn. I learned a lot of songs from my dad, but his songs are mostly Irish so that's not much good for Scottish competitions!

I've been going to a singing class since last September. The best bit of advice I got was that you sing best the songs that you love and that really mean something to you.

The other bit of advice I got was to listen as widely as you can to different singers and different styles of singing and that way you will find songs. I've spent the last few months listening to some of the old singers such as Lizzie Higgins and Jeannie Robertson, and current ones like Sheena Wellington, Aileen Carr, Cathal McConnell (they don't have to be women!), Stravaig and Old Blind Dogs. I've also learnt a couple of brilliant Burns songs too.

I get a lot of stuff from Edinburgh Library so it doesn't cost too much money! I will put my email address at the bottom of this so you can email me and, if you like, I could send you a tape. Or if there is something you know you want and can't get, I could see if I can get it for you.

WickedLad is right - you should try having a look at the Digitrad. There are thousands of lyrics there and a lot of them have tunes too.

Sorry this is so long! I'm off to practice my pennywhistle now.

Tracy

I would just like to point out that my comment above was all to do with a rather large tent that a lady called Shona wanted erected.
