Listening to a men's chorus sing the French National Anthem in honor of Bastille Day. (With Placido Domingo singing the solos.) I'm thinking it sounds nice.

Right now? [ - - - - - - ]

However, yesterday about this time I was being driven slowly mad by several songs that I absolutely hate, and which one hears frequently on radios and in shopping centers, etc.

I will spare you all, and not name them.

Vaughan Williams, English Folk Songs No.5 - Allegri String Quartet. I'm in a quasi-classical mood after a day in the garden tending to the woodpile, the roses, and the lawn.

Time for a nap. Mooh.

The second movement of Debussy's Images Pour Orchestre. I'm also hearing the second movement of Ponce's Sonata Romántica. I wonder how they would sound together? I guess I'm in a "quasi-classical mood" as well. But why is it that the second movements are almost always the best?

In the midst of all this music is a pretty girl. But I guess this isn't the thread for discussing that.

Most every morning, I wake up with some tune running through my head. Sometimes it's something interesting, somtimes it's some stupid jingle from a commercial, sometimes it's something that my mind remembers from a dream.

Right this very minute though, it would be the newest song I am trying to learn. And, of course, it is something Celtic. ;D

I once heard that if you have a tune stuck in your head and it's driving you crazy, you can get rid it by thinking of the theme from The Odd Couple. I don't know if it's power of suggestion or what but it works for me. To answer the question: "Manchester Rambler" by Ewan MacColl. (I don't know how to get rid of the theme frome The Odd Couple.)

Da Slockit Lite, after hearing the sables/pirt/stephenson Cd. It sounded familiar and I managed to get a version of the tune from JCs and I am practicing it (the G sharp still catches me out)
Last wednesday I went along to the Red House pub, the first time in several months, and listened to the tunes being played. That is why the tune is so familiar, they play it there among all the other tunes I haven't yet learned.

I've just had a wonderful folk camping weekend in Sussex. Great beer, fantastic singing and very late nights/early mornings. Worth every minute but awful on a Monday morning, especially when you've got a driving test later in the day.
A gallon or so of tea should sort me out by then - I hope!!!!!!

Alice, the song you're looking for (post 506654 above) could be All the tunes in the world by Mudcatter Ewan McVicar. There is a short older thread on it but the link there is obsolete. Can anything be done about this? (Sorry - sneaking off to the technical forum ...)

"Sweetest Nights and Days of Ease", a love song by J. Seanna Rowe (that's me).

"Every day you're away from me
I say a little prayer
To keep you safe and loved and free

And if when you are far away
and wishing I were there
I'll send you coloured memories

of sweetest night and days of ease
Of dancing in the summer breeze"

I've been practising it in my head for a few days now in preparation for recording it to put up on my mp3.com website. (and I do hope it doesn't take as long as that last four I put up there over TWO weeks ago!! [/rant])

I was going to say Atari Teenage Riot and RD350s but after EJ's post I'm thinking of where best to launch breakfast.

Arrrrgggh. Everytime I read the title of this thread, I start up with the same song and it goes all day. I've got to change it... OK... The October Winds lament around....

Right at this moment "Take This Job And Shove It"

Husband said my letter was to soft so he's redrafting it, as an old friend used to say he wont miss and hit the wall.

Seriously, C.Fox Smith's poem "Flying-Fish Sailor" is running to the tune of "Cold Frosty Morning."

Well, that and Christy Moore's live version of Ewan MacColl's "Go, Move, Shift."

A hungover and a generally liverish feeling (why o why do I drink rum?) from a cracking evening at Sharp's yesterday.
Compounded by Doris bloody Day singing Que sera.
All together now...
Will I be bilious,
Will I be sick...?

It's one of those songs that turns itself into an earworm when I'm feeling below par, and it's insufferable saccharine jollity is driving me MAD at the moment!

Sitting on top of the world: a mix of Howlin' Wolf and Mississippi Sheiks versions! (thankfully lacking the kazoo break I include in my version!)

A lovely reel from Lunasa's new album, 'The Three Merry Sisters of Fate'. Sorry can't remember the name of the tune but if you've got the CD its the first tune in a set and is just played on the fiddle.

Louisa

PS also 'Eternal Flame' after having read the Atomic Kitten thread. Groan.

John McKusker's "Dalnabreac", as recorded on the Battlefield Band's Quiet Days CD. Listened to it last night. The melody always lingers with me long after I hear it. Absolutely beautiful! John's one helluva fiddler. PDB.

A song that I heard at the weekend. It's by a band called Skandal, and it's called Footloose. I've also got Robbie's Eternity, and allSTARS Best Friends.
