At Saddleworth festival at the weekend, i heard a great song being sung on the campsite but the tune has gone out of my head. All i know is some of the words in the chorus refer to ....punch ladle. Not much to go on but if anyone knows what the song is, i'd be greatful

I Aaways hated the name ....... I got called Nutty at school -- it did little to improve my confidence even then - lol :¬)

I remember Chez Watts singing this at our song swaps in Portland, Maine years ago. I was sure this was in the DT, but I wanted to see how the thread was going.

Hazel is a fine name.

Hazel; there was a lovely lady with a wonderfull voice,called Hazel King, who sang with and later married Derek Serjeant. They were the resident singers at the Assembly Rooms folk club in Surbiton, way back when. Under their instigation I had my only brush with national broadcasting from that club, as I sang on their appearance in Folk on Two [ I think that is what it was called.] The BBC paid me all of £12.50 for that,[ Less than $20 for our friends across the pond.]

And here I thought it was the story of the silver punch ladle, rendered in music. That's the story of the straitlaced woman who goes to visit her adult son, and finds he has a live-in whom he claims is his housekeeper. A few weeks after the visit, the man writes Mom, it was great to see you, but I haven't seen the punch ladle since, did you take it for some reason? And she answers No, dear, but if your "housekeeper" were actually sleeping in her own bed, she'd have found the ladle by now!

The verse above doesn't seem new to me - it's the first verse I've been singing for years!   And there I was getting all excited about a new verse to one of my fave songs!
